My buddy just aquired an 1873 winchester. He brought it down fior me to ID and try to find more inf o on it. The rifle is a 44-40 cal with a 139XXX A ser# that puts its date of Mfgr to 1883. the wood is in fine cond, no cracks etc. minor marks, just normal or less than expected. the metal is not rusted or pitted just the aged patina and worn blue expected for a rifle of that age. in working condition . The fellow he got it from shot a Deer with it back a few yrs. Can anyone give ma an idea of the current mkt on these? i have a older book that shows some where between $1000 to $2000 prices. i never put much into the book prices.--JMJ--
