It there any way to determine the manufacture date on a Stevens Model 87B ?

According to the "Blue Book of G. Values" (#26 ed.) Savage /Stevens #87 were made from 1938 to 1945 for a total of about 200K units. A "B" suffix would indicate likely late vs early production.
