I just spent 3 hrs sizing/depriming. priming and belling case mouths on a little over 400 38 special cases.

And I have a Dillon 550 stting on my reloading bench!! Had to do it with my Rock Chucker! Dummy! Didn't want to change the Dillon over to small primers!

I could have loaded all 400 in half that time on the Dillon!

If you had a Hornady Lock N Load, that would have been a one Minute change.

Thanks Shooter! LOL! Real sympathetic there!

But, to tell you the truth, I don't know how long it takes to convert the 550 to small primers. I got the 550 this summer and I have only loaded 45's on it so far. I haven't setup the extra quick charge and dies for 38's yet. That will be done very shortly after last night! Single stage is way too slow!

OK, OK, to solve this little primer delima...I had transformed my Dillon RL 450 to full auto mode on the powder and primer. That worked so well that I decided to find another 450 and now have one set up for both primer sizes. Problem solved.

I've got nearly a couple of hundred bucks in each unit, as I already had the powder dispensers, one an RCBS and the other a HORNADY.

How long does it take to change over?

I have a Dillon Sq. Deal and it takes all of 5min to change calibres.

Changing over is no biggie for me. I'm retired, have plenty of time, but it might take me 10 minutes to change over...screw 'em out and screw 'em in.

If I wasn't such a cheap individual, I could send the press to Dillon and for a mere $60 they would put a new top frame on the press...one that has the 550 B quick-change die head. But I am doing just fine the way I'm set up.

Viva Dillon.

Sorry Tuckerd1, I did not mean to reply with a A-hole attitude. I meant to let you know that If you had a Hornady, You could change calibers, from rifle to pistol, from samll to large primer, in a very short time. The dies are set all the time. I was not trying to rub it in.
