Default If you could change the Constitution...

...what changes would you make?

Although it is an amazing, brilliant document, we all know the Founding Fathers could not foresee how future administrations would twist and trick and circumvent the Constitution to suit their purposes.
So with the advantage of almost 230 years of hindsight, what changes or additions would you like to see made to our Constitution?

It doesn't matter when it's ignored.

That's the reason we're in the state we are.

I'd add a bit about felony charges for members of congress who pass bills that voilate it.

The constitution contemplated and excepted slavery and the death penalty, neither of which in my view are or ever were correct. In 1913 the sixteenth and seventeenth amendments were added and in my opinion are the direct causation of where we are today and if not abolished we are toast.

If they would just follow the constitution AS WRITTEN, then, we'd not be in the mess we're in. They are NOT following it and we're in trouble.

They have EXPANDED their power to treasonous levels.

Term limits for certain. And maybe a proviso that say something like 'any person that seeks office is permanently barred from holding office.' People used to think of political office as a duty, not a career.

I would make liberalism a bonified mental disorder and anyone that shows signs of it would be taken out of society and placed on an island far away where they couldnt cause any more harm to anyone else. I would make it mandatory that the 2nd ammendment be followed out to the letter in every town and city across the country.

I agree with Jack!!! It is a great document but has been bent and changed since around 1900. Get rid of all the nonsense that the Progressives have "ADDED" since around 1900. Jack, as a so called "outsider" you have much more knowlege than a lot of citizens. Thanks for all of you help and input.

Cutter , its a unique document , through it a true democratic dream can be acheived and have room to care for those less fortunate , or injured in the line of duty , not just the troops , but cops fireys ambo's Nurses , but not professional parasites

it give you rights never before held buy all in a nation before

in greece the citizens had equal rights , but only males who had done a term of military service who have not a criminal charge could apply to be citizens , so errrmm..

if i had half of that here we'd not be in the strife we are now

i'll tell you that for nothing

protect the original at all costs ,

I have to agree with those who said it doesn't matter, they don't follow it anyways. However, If it did matter, I would definitely impose term limits for Congress as well as Supreme Court judges (especially SCj's).

Liberals refer to the Constitution as a "living document" that needs to be re-interpreted for the ever-changing meaning of the words. If that were remotely true, just imagine what would be going on if the Bible was a living document. Our forefathers were very precise and concise about every word and every punctuation mark in the Constitution and IMHOP it's as relevant today as it was when it was first written, word for word. It's the character of the people that has changed, not the meaning of the words.

Just a few suggestions:

ENGLISH as the only official language. PERIOD.

Eliminate the confusing "...well regulated militia" language and

CLARIFY that the 2nd A applies SPECIFICALLY to firearms of MILITARY SIGNIFICANCE.

Requirement that elected officials at every level be REQUIRED to abide by legislation; participate in Soc Sec; receive a salary based on the MEAN NATIONAL AVERAGE INCOME;

Clarify a specific precise limitation to taxation and what it is appropriately spent for;

.......and probably many more things I will think of later.

Thanks jack for your thoughts coming from "the other side". Some times when you have something for so long you have the tendacy to not see what you have.Hearing someones thoughts who does not have it and wants it (or even part of it) makes you sit back and see what you do have. And appreciate it.I do agre with your anser go back to 1900 and work with that.JMO

I would amend the constitution to acknowledge that a human fetus is a living person entitled to life.

ROMT , i may be wrong , when i read the constitution and supporting papers ( as there where many ) i noticed the supporting papers where arguement on definition , maybe as a preamble to th constitution , so everyone knew what everyone meant

these papers should be included not as a amendment but as a narration , and use them to fall back onto as per for meaning .. not some socialists twaddle in a court somewhere

its all there

one of the discussions in the federalist papers ends with a agreement that "a life is a life from when it first begins in the mother " it was not about abortion but criminality , should killing a pregnant woman count as two deaths , the decision was yes, as as soon and a egg was fertilised that life had the same rights as everyone else including legal recourse .

THERE is your definition, from the founding fathers themselves, or thats how i read it all , many added to the clarity in the years after franklin did , and before hand with his pen name letters .. ( he stirred the pot a lot while the brits still ran the joint eh)

madison did

jefferson did

all to clarify that document

theres where you get your clarification on terms and word usage !!

the folks who wrote the constitution , and all else can not be allowed , how do they KNOW what the framers wanted? ask them instead!! they wrote it all out ..

As for some dumb ass trying to get into the minds of our Forefathers of their intents for The Constitution some 200 years later...lets just focus on the face value of what was said.
