If you're lucky enough not to live in one of the few communist states or cities that don't allow concealed carry...
What's your daily packin' iron?

My primary carry piece is a Springfield Armory 1911A1 GI45, but I also have the options of carrying my Taurus 617, or my XD9.

SA 1911A1 Mil-spec in general, in polite circles usually my Kel-Tek P32. If there are no metal detectors it even goes with me into Guv't Bldgs.

Imbel Mod1 in .380 ACP. Civils cannot carry a .45ACP here, so I picket the nearest thing. The Imbel Md1 is a 1911clone, just in .380 acp. Commander size.

Never sell the .380 short (if you'll pardon the pun), AGB. With good ammo, it is more than adequate for self-defense. I sometimes carry a Sig P230 myself and feel fully protected.

i have carried a gun 6 days a week for well over 15 years...
here is a chronological breakdown: 1. STAR MODEL A 1922 VARIANT 9MM LARGO i bought it used, with almost no finish left on it. had it proffesionaly refinished (a non reflective stealthy flat black) and had a trigger job done... very reliable gun, very accuratte, would not feed hollowpoints. i came to the opinion that it was to heavy / bulky 2. MAUSER MODEL 1914 .32 ACP compact, light, easy to carry. i had a custom leather holster made. it would not cycle correctly with hollowpoints, but otherwise was a reliabe, accuratte piece. i cam to the opinion that the JOSEF NICKL safety design might slow down deployment 3. INA TIGER snubnosed Brazilian Air Force revolver .32 S&W long small, light, a joy to wear and easy to draw from any position / under any circumstance. quite accuratte (i can hit a tennis ball at 10 yds). handloaded soft lead +P+ semiwadcutters. 100% reliable. great for close in work. i still wear it a lot, but it lacks in ammo capacity. 4. S&W MODEL 469 COMPACT 9MM LUGER light, short, smoothed, bobbed hammer, non snag configuration. 12+1 capacity, loaded with BLACK TALONS. a point and shoot high cap carry piece. reliable, well balanced. many "custom" features from the factory. i have, cause i am rather odd, carried some strange pieces: FROMMER STOP STAR MODEL SUPER B MAUSER MODEL 1910 SATA CZ24 EXCAM GT380 S&W MODEL 13-3 ETC... i recomend: its comfortable to wear / does not pull you pants down can be drawn while stiing down has been tested and found reliable it fits you you can hit what you aim at i lean towards a compact, not full sized gun. best regards, mike. |

Colt Series 70 LW Commander.....MMC adjustable combat sights, enlarged ejection port, polished feedramp, long tang grip safety, Wolff springs, Pachmayr flat mainspring housing and wraparound grips, beveled magazine well, adjustable trigger. Been carrying this baby for 30+ years and see no reason to change.
In shorts & T-shirt weather, I carry my Smith Model 49 Bodyguard with Pachmayr grips. |

An old three inch Charter Arms Bulldog in .44 special loaded with 200g Gold Dots.
![]() My new Ruger P345 is challenging it, but I still prefer revolvers and the Bulldog is light and easy to carry. Last edited by omegapd; 08-05-2006 at 08:01 AM.. |

Pistolenschutze
I do pardon the pun! I carry the .380 because it is the largest pistol caliber allowed for civilians here. I like it, but if I were allowed, i'd carry my 70 series COlt in 45 ACP all the times. Took a long time to see your reply! |

Ursus,
Brasilian laws. For CCW and normal self defense issues, I can own anything up to .380 acp as pistol and .38 spl as a revolver and it does not only refer to the ammo diameter, but also it's energy, so i.ex. a 30 M1 AMT Automag pistol or a 7.63 Mauser should both also be illegal. As a shooter or gun collector I can have many other options legally, and even get a license to take them to a range and pratice or take part in shooting competiotion but cannot CCW it and should not use them as for self defense. The gun must be taken to the range unloaded and the magazines should be empty. Here a CCL is specific to one gun, and You, as a civilian, have only one CCL. Military and policemans are regulated by other rules. |

[QUOTE=AGB]Ursus,
Brasilian laws. For CCW and normal self defense issues, I can own anything up to .380 acp as pistol and .38 spl OK. I guess we have it better in El Salvador. Here you can carry any handgun up to .45 cal. (No energy rule), and any shotgun. Semi-auto rifles you can keep loaded in your home or bussines, but you must transport them unloaded.
