I haven't seen much mention of Glock pistols in this forum. Why not?

Tupperware ????????
Glock makes a good duty weapon but if you like to hit exactly where you aim and shoot small groups , the 1911 is still the way to go. JMHO. Some people may think different. But I can tell you now, this thread will get some attention. Just like the Ford- Chevy debates. |

Well Rik, some people like Glocks, some don't.
I don't.....and I'll tell you why.....I've been shooting handguns for more than 50 years. I'm used to steel guns and don't trust plastic to hold a gun together if a cartridge bursts. I've shot Glocks and don't care for the cheap plastic feel of them. I don't like the trigger. I don't care for the lack of a positive safety. Don't care for the accuracy (compared to a 1911). Don't like the sights. Don't like the idea that I can't (or shouldn't) shoot lead bullets thru 'em, since I cast & load my own. Most of all, I don't care for the many well documented cases of Glock KaBooms. For those that like them.....fine. As for me, I'll stick with a gun that feels good, shoots good, and I can trust.....the M1911. |

a 1911A1 could never take the abuse that Glocks have been put through...no other single sidearm has ever had half a million rounds fired through it like Chuck Taylor's Glock 17...

Well, Logansdad, I was brought up on 1911's and a few years ago I bought a Glock. I have known 1911's that will match the 500,000 mark as you imply. I sold my 40 S&W Glock within 2 weeks of buying it. Why? Just one word...........................
SPROING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't stand the feel or the rubbermaid parts. Give me steel anytime.

yup, me too. only i'm a yungin. only pistols i shot as a kid were wheel guns. city folks had them autos like you saw in the movies. only recently got back into firearms and couldn't believe how many plastic pistols there are. they just feel wrong. found CZ and i really really like `em. all steel frame, slender, and super simple take down.

A few years ago I was looking at a Glock at a gun shop, the salesman was an xcop and he was telling me how indestuctible they are but I could not get over the fact that they have no positive saftey. He said" but they do this little lever on the trigger" here, I still did not like the idea cause I could just see an accident happening. three weeks later I read a story about a cop in Nashville who came home, took off his belt and laid it on the table while he was talking to his wife and removing his body armor his 3 year old kid picked up this glock and pulled the trigger killing his father. That was when I made my final decision about Glocks.
I know that all of the gun saftey rules were not followed here but had the gun had a real saftey this accident most likley would not of happened. Just my .02 worth. 1911's rule.

well the one thing is that the firing pin is disengaged unless you start pulling the trigger its not going off.
I still like my glock for carry, and my kimber, and my revolver. Now I just need one for every day of the week and I will be set! hehe OHHH! I just got a German Walther PPK/S used for $250, great condition, needs some reblue but it works. I will get some pictures up. Oh and I got a Turkish 8mm mauser with all the goodies for $90. I am still cleaning the damn barrel, dirty as hell. Anyone got any tips? Well funny thing my gunsmith just called, he got the improved trigger job (of his own design) for my glock done and the night sights on, I felt a glock trigger he did and it was nice. Got me some Trijicon sights for $50 . I asked him about the mauser, he said get some diesel fuel plug the barrel and let it sit for a week, hmmmm I am leary about this.

"unless you start pulling the trigger its not going off"
Which is my point exactly, that is all it takes to make them go BOOM.

A "safety on the trigger" sort of defeats the entire purpose of a safety, don't you think?
I've always thought that the purpose of a positive safety was to prevent discharge if the trigger were accidently pulled. |

My interest in Glock was fowled long ago, when a local PD switched from S&W 66's to Glock.
It wasn't long that the PD's armorer found rust inside the Glock. Needless to say they changed to Sigs ![]() |

Finally tried a Glock a few weeks ago. An LEO friend of mine was getting away from Glocks and selling his back up Model 30. (and his Model 21 by the way) Took it to the range and tried it out. Found out that I REALLY hate the thingy in the trigger. Tip of my finger got sore in very short order. No natural point of aim, had to adjust EVERY shot. If it is not going to shoot where I point it, I do not want it. Sold it right away. It was not because of it being plastic, H&K’s were the first to use polymer in a pistol over 25 years ago, still do not hear of many knocking the USP’s.
