Default My father 5th SFG

This is just to remember my dad, he was a captain in the 5th SFG, this photo is a Ft Benning Ga, sometime in the early 60's, he made the final jump into the LZ of heaven in 1994-----RIP dad

Fighting soldiers from the sky
Fearless men who jump and die
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Green Beret

Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret

Trained to live off nature's land
Trained in combat, hand-to-hand
Men who fight by night and day
Courage peak from the Green Berets

Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret

Back at home a young wife waits
Her Green Beret has met his fate
He has died for those oppressed
Leaving her his last request

Put silver wings on my son's chest
Make him one of America's best
He'll be a man they'll test one day
Have him win the Green Beret.

Sir, 'tis an honorable gesture to remember your Father with such obvious love...quotations always seem to fit better than mere words, so please allow me to mark your post with one:
If, after I depart this vale, you ever remember me and have thought to please my ghost, forgive some sinner and wink your eye at some homely girl.

I have often told this story on here---about meeting John Wayne. T'was the summer of 1954 in Culver City California. The intersection of Lincoln Blvd. and Washington Avenue----Owen Keown Chevrolet Dealership at that intersection was having a big Hollywood promotion event for the new Chevrolet Corvette...John Wayne and lots of his drinking buddies was at the event having just finished that film 'THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY'. I was in dress whites waiting to go on shore patrol duty down at the PIKE in Long Beach. Bonnie and I had just finished lunch at the COPPER KETTLE there on the corner so we meandered over to see the new car promotion....Well, the big man singled me out because I was in uniform and had a pretty gal there by my side---when I told him I was a Seabee, I was his buddy of the hour. Damn, he was a big fellow---I swear, me being rather short in stature, I was looking right into that big western belt buckle he was wearing---he reminded all around the he had been the star of the old '44 movie, THE FIGHTING SEABEES. Yeah, I have related this story many times---I recall a young blond headed actor from that movie being there that day---who later went on as the star of ROUTE 66...Martin Milner. One thing I recall from the memorable meeting that day---though it was obvious that he was 'boozed and buzzing', the big guy seemed sincere about it all. Chief
