Default Religion and Culture

why is it that people here in the USA dont know nothing about other religions and cultures.

ex. the whole mideast has camels and they wear turbans
ex. The Quran supports terrorism

Ive just been seeing a lot of this ^ and its funny because those people who say it , havent even done any research themselves. Instead they believe everything see on tv haha....ahh the media........one of the most *EDIT* up things ...especially here in USA. It has so much control of the people....

that's a broad brush you're using, to make a statement like that...

Who are "they"?

Besides, we all know what they say... and can't believe none of it!

Be careful, there Aladdin. You are making the same kind of generalization against Americans as you accuse them of making against Middle Easterners. I think you will find that there are more knowledgeable Americans out there than you think... it's just that the ignorant ones have the biggest mouths.

Why does anybody make generalizations (this includes you)? Mostly because it gets people's attention. I've noticed quite a few foreigners seem to think that everyone here has money and is rich - is that the truth? Far from it but the myth persists in their minds because of generalizations. And as SouthernMoss did state - the ones that yell the loudest (usually those who do the most generalization) are the ones that are heard the farthest.

Once again you are falling for your own trap by using a very big brush of generalization in your statement about our country. Is it true - to a degree maybe in regards to people believing what the hear on the news, but it's not the total truth because nobody believes everything they see or hear. I have tended to notice a lot of false reporting in other countries as well - but I don't make statements like yours saying that everyone believes it.

I also notice that while you are bold to make comments about my country your also afraid to say in your profile what country you are from? To me that makes a statement that you are not proud of your own culture but merely envious of others.

Still as an opening shot you made a good try - not a very good shot, but a good try.

Aladdin.... I will agree with you.

Not only don't THEY know nothing about
other religions and cultures, but they do not
even know their own culture, religion, heritage
and history. When i say THEY i mean the Majority
of LEMMINGS that are aimlessly following each
other around to their own doom.
And these lemmings do believe what they see
on TV, don't you know that the people on
Gilligan's Island were really stranded ?
Half the lies they tell you on TV are not even true !

THOSE WHO ARE UNAWARE ARE UNAWARE
OF BEING UNAWARE.

Shizamus must say I rather enjoyed your post especially the part where "Half the lies they tell them aren't true" and what exactly does that say about the other half of the lies??

As far as believing everything they see yes there are a select number of truly mindless drones that seem to take everything they see as gospel. However, unless you live in some strange world in close proximity to several mental institutions I believe you will find that a far greater number question most if not all of what they see and or hear. All you need to do to see this is take a look at the community response sections of most major newspapers, yes there you see the wonderful mindless drones who get printed for nothing but commending the "wonderful writers for giving them reason for waking up in the morning," but, atleast in my area you will see a far greater number of people presenting concrete fact to show a difference in opinion or expose missed facts from news articles used to skew the story to the writer's own views. Amazing someone that not only reads the paper, but actually thinks about whether or not the story they read might be the FULL STORY on the issue.

But I better run now because my tin foil beanie needs repairs before tonights brainwashing session broadcasted by the Global Persuasion Satelites that the nasty government put into orbit under the guise of me being able to know where I am. Doesn't everyone know by now those are there to keep tabs on us and be sure our brains get the proper amount of detergent on a daily basis?
