unfortunately for the other 49, TX is the only state in the union that has the right to secede. We just need enough of the state to be on board with the idea to account for the votes to make it happen..

I am a real Texan but don't live there now. I guess that makes me legal to vote.

Plenty of room still here for ya. Maybe if we get the decent half of the country to migrate south to the Peoples Republic of Texas we could push the illegals back to mexico.

I would too, and so would most of the rest of everyone I know personally in this State. We have all the tools we need to be our own republic.. Coastline, Oil and nat gas, farmland, etc, etc, etc.. We really dont need to be a part of the governmental nonsense anymore. And I cant figure out why we havent yet..

Y'know, I've heard that for years. Never seen any proof of it, but have heard it for years. That Texas has the right to secede.
When did they get that right? Must have been AFTER 1865, because if they had it before then, when they tried to secede in 1861, the Union would not have sent troops there to make them stay. I've heard it's because was is the only that that was its own country before becoming a state. The Lone Star Republic. Yep, they were the only one. The Republic of West Florida (the original Lone Star Republic), the Republic of California (the Golden Bear Republic) and the Kingdom of Hawaii just did not exist. edit: Here we go: An Ordinance, Declaring the Ordinance of Secession Null and Void March 15, 1866 “Be it ordained by the people of Texas in Convention assembled, That we acknowledge the supremacy of the Constitution of the United States, and the laws passed in pursuance thereof; and that an Ordinance adopted by a former Convention of the people of Texas on the 1st day of February, A.D. 1861, entitled “An Ordinance to Dissolve the Union between the State of Texas and the other States, united under the compact styled ‘Constitution of the United States of America,’” be and the same is hereby declared null and void; and the right heretofore claimed by the State of Texas to secede from the Union, is hereby distinctly renounced. Passed 15th March, 1866. SOURCE: The Constitution of the State of Texas, as Amended by the Delegates in Convention Assembled, Austin, 1866. Austin: Printed at the Southern Intelligencer Office, 1866, p. 32.”

Q: Doesn't the Texas Constitution reserve the right of Texas to secede? [BACK TO TOP] A: This heavily popularized bit of Texas folklore finds no corroboration where it counts: No such provision is found in the current Texas Constitution[1] (adopted in 1876) or the terms of annexation.[2] However, it does state (in Article 1, Section 1) that "Texas is a free and independent State, subject only to the Constitution of the United States..." (note that it does not state "...subject to the President of the United States..." or "...subject to the Congress of the United States..." or "...subject to the collective will of one or more of the other States...")

Bliss is Bliss, no matter how you cut it.
Though I was always taught that stupidity is Bliss, and that ignorant people know they are ignorant. But you are correct Alpo. It is nice to know the way it really is.. Help in planning for the 'future'

Thats not a bad idea at all. Maybe we could core drill the san andreas fault and wedge some nukes in the cracks and coerse all the braindead commie liberals to visit kalifornia the same day we throw the switch to blow that patch of dirt out into the middle of the pacific. course wed have to sneak all the remaining decent folk outta kali somehow. but that sure is a nice thought.

Each sovereign state could leave the union, but for most aside from Texas it would be hard to do. Found it! James Madison said: Each State, in ratifying the Constitution, is considered as a sovereign body, independent of all others, and only to be bound by its own voluntary act. In this relation, then, the new Constitution will, if established, be a FEDERAL, and not a NATIONAL constitution The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation and foreign commerce. On the commerce clause: It is very certain that [the commerce clause] grew out of the abuse of the power by the importing States in taxing the non-importing, and was intended as a negative and preventive provision against injustice among the States themselves, rather than as a power to be used for the positive purposes of the General Government. It will be of little avail to the people, that the laws are made by men of their own choice, if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood; if they be repealed or revised before they are promulgated, or undergo such incessant changes that no man, who knows what the law is today, can guess what it will be tomorrow. Law is defined to be a rule of action; but how can that be a rule, which is little known, and less fixed? A government that does not trust it's law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms is itself unworthy of trust. If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.

Texas can't Secede any more than new jersey.
What they can do is break up into 5 separate states with 10 US Senators. All appointed by the governor, no election necessary. This is what makes Texas legally unique compared to the other 49. BTW: I'm a Native Texan and had more Texas History classes than anyone should have to endure. ![]()

Source(s):
U.S. Constitution, Article IV, Section 3, New States: "New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress." Not sure how to read this, but sounds like no state can split. They can join together if state legislatures agree. They may be able to split if legislature wills it. No lawyer so not sure what it says.

Can't do it anymore. It was there in 1848, but not in the new admission process after the War Against Northern Agression. However, over 60% of the people believe that states should have the right to seceed (recent opinion poll).

Bottom line.. So long as we remain armed and free.. "We the People" hold the power.. So, folks, remember to vote. If it were legal to vote repeatedly id pull an 18 hour shift at the polls come november. In order to change our country we have to change our tactic. And recently people have been a little too passive IMO. Together we stand, devided we fall... Live together, die alone.. However you look at it.. STEP 1, Vote obummer out of office. If he and his chronies grab a second term were royally screwed. God willing and some decent administration we can reverse the mess hes made to date, but 4 more years of this nonsense and were likely to be shackled together come november 2016.
