Have you considered a milsurp artillery gun carriage instead?

I remember when the Freedom Arms .454's first came out and I saw someone shooting one at the local range, and I though "why the hell would anyone want to punish themselves like that?"

Since that time I have gotten more experience in both shooting and re-loading and I thought what the hell, the price was right and it's $300 cheaper that the Dan Wesson .44 they had at the store.

first impressions with the 240grain Hornady XTP's are it kicks pretty good but it's not intolerable. I can see me taking an Elk and a few hogs with it next year.

I'm not too big on lugging a heavy 15lb rifle around on a hunt, but a 15lb handgun..... pure heaven....

I even gave a serious lookin' at a DE .50 today too....

Now I'm considering a scope. Any Handun Hunters with advice?

I'm thinking black would look best, but a dust silver could look good too. Anyone know if any manufacturers make one to match the Ruger finish?

Also I am new to not only hangun scopes, but scopes in general, AND to handgun hunting.

I'm thinking a 2x single power scope, should I look at a variable?

I imagine any Deer/Elk/Hog shots will be taken under 50 yards, and maybe once my skill and confidence level improve as far as 100 yards. Are these realistic expectations?

I'm already comfortable with full power loads in this gun.
