hi
i am trying to find out the year od manufacture for my fathers savage sporter in 25 20 serial number 99396. it is believed to have been purchased in 1930 there is some reloading gear also any information on this would be appreciated 85 gram projectiles with 4 grooves any idea what brand of mould?? 100 improved dominion primers made in canada a powder measure with '20 for black power' on the handle the measure is made of brass an ideal?? decapping pin/neck sizer (it looks like one from photos i have seen) 5 savage brass what type of ideal loader would have been used in this era??? regards evan

Without pictures or a model number no one can tell you much. The date of manufacture probably can't be determined; as far as I know, there is no list of serial numbers by date as there is for some makers.

a model 23b is 25 20 i believe?? also 23a was a 22lr 23c was a 32 20 barrel and reciever are one piece bolt action 5 shot magazine schnabel fore end metal butplate stamped with savage arms corp i believe they started making them in 1923 evan |

Your Model 23B wasn't listed in the Savage 1942 Catalogue, the C and D were. So your rifle was made sometime between 1923 and the start of the war for the US. I don't think you'll tie the DOM down any closer. No published SN logs. You can try getting a letter from the Savage Historian John Callahan. It costs about $30.00. he'll need the serial number and Model #. |

John Callahan is the fellow to contact. Savage will give you his number. ear6 only missed one, the 23D was a .22 Hornet.
