Default savage sporter 25 20

hi
i am trying to find out the year od manufacture for my fathers savage sporter in 25 20 serial number 99396.
it is believed to have been purchased in 1930
there is some reloading gear also
any information on this would be appreciated
85 gram projectiles with 4 grooves any idea what brand of mould??
100 improved dominion primers made in canada
a powder measure with '20 for black power' on the handle
the measure is made of brass
an ideal?? decapping pin/neck sizer (it looks like one from photos i have seen)
5 savage brass
what type of ideal loader would have been used in this era???
regards
evan

Without pictures or a model number no one can tell you much. The date of manufacture probably can't be determined; as far as I know, there is no list of serial numbers by date as there is for some makers.

evan,

Your Model 23B wasn't listed in the Savage 1942 Catalogue, the C and D were. So your rifle was made sometime between 1923 and the start of the war for the US. I don't think you'll tie the DOM down any closer. No published SN logs. You can try getting a letter from the Savage Historian John Callahan. It costs about $30.00. he'll need the serial number and Model #.

John Callahan is the fellow to contact. Savage will give you his number. ear6 only missed one, the 23D was a .22 Hornet.
