They are trying to impress us with their toughness. I have never heard of any significant number of Arabs fighting with courage. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Most reptile meat cooked over an open fire is OK but for a real treat find some good gumbo mud That is a clay mud and gut the critters (fish work well here also) leave the skin on roll in the mud so that it is about one half inch thick place in a bed of hot coals when the Mud Cracks the meat is ready. the skin will stay stuck to the mus and that is the serving plater crack the mud plate into add seasoning to taste and eat right off the plate. Yep an old python may take a little longer but then they aren't that easy to roll in the mud so smaller snakes are better. If it is a poisonous snake make sure to cut it off well behind the venom sacks and that you do all the bitting

Trust me the special forces guys do some worse stuff.
Ever watch a commando suck the eyeballs out of a rabbit? RM Commando training, warning NSFW. (Well, maybe, depending on where you work, I guess) (Probably just as bad as the snake video) |

Made me hungry for rabbit. Only had it once. Went hunting with my Dad and his buddy. We ate what we shot and it was great tasting meat. There are a few memories of childhood I have that are very, very clear and sitting around the dinner table during that meal was one of them.

Back in 77 we were in the field down in the Hood (Tx.). We had a Warrant Officer who was a tough old codger.
He was gunned down by a machine gun in Nam and survived. He had multiple round scars across his mid section where the bullets went in and one very large scare across his back where the bullets came out and where they had pieced him back together. (He ran PT without a shirt so everyone saw them.) I was bunking (2 man pup tent) with a guy name Micheal Smead, I told him I was short (I was being transfered to Germany in a few days)and I wasn't going to do gaurd duty that night and he would have to cover my shift. It was the last night of our manuvers. Early the next morning I was sleeping comfortably in my sleeping bag and about daybreak I heard Smead yell out my name. I woke up to the tent flap being ripped open and a rattle snake being tossed in on top of me. I grabbed it with both hands and tossed it out of the flap as I was quickly evacuating my bag. I looked down and saw that Smead had cut off its head before tossing it in. I hadn't realized it up to this point because all I could hear was that rattler singing and my first priority was to get it out of the tent. I started to give chase but I was bare foot (yea I'm a tender foot) and I couldn't catch him. Micheal was laughing so hard he could barely run away. Afterward we both had a good laugh about the whole affair and Mike decided he was going to skin and save the hide. It was a big one. It was about 4-5' long and about 8-10" wide when the skin was laid out flat. The warrant officer asked what he was going to do with the meat. Mike said he was going to throw it away but the officer had a better plan. He sent a guy to the mess tent for some butter, got out his mess kit and sterno and cooked it up. He shared it with us and I have to say that after eating c rats for a period of time, that warm sauteed snake meat tasted ok. Last edited by Just One Shot; 08-07-2009 at 08:53 AM.. |

If some of you had been where I have been and eaten the things I have eaten, snake and a rabbits eyes would sound like a real Sunday treat, to you. Sit in your own air conditioned home and just drink water for a week. Then come back and tell me all about it. A few toasted bugs are better then the live ones but sometimes you just can't have a fire.
