Re: is this ammo safe to fire?
I had some shotgun shells stored in an out building (bird shot), and the rats got into it. They ate some of the plastic off the ends of the shells, exposing the pellets. I shot it anyway, and it did fine in my single shot 12ga. Ringing the hull is something that is done to cause the shot to stay in a tight wad untill it strikes the target. It acts more like a slug than a load of bird shot. Lets say all you have is some bird shot, and you want to kill a deer, ring the hull, then get in close. Bang, one hole in the deer.
