I live in Maryland and got one, its very easy. Of course it isn't any good in Maryland, but when I cross the border into Delaware, Pa and Va I am legal.

Also secured one from Florida, therefore I am covered in many states.

Check out this link and if you have any specific questions please state them:

Utah had a web site with approved instructors by state. That was a couple years ago when I looked into it and the guy in NH wanted $300 for the instruction. That is why I got the PA permit instead, $18 for nonresident and had it in a matter of days.

The gun club I belong to offered the Utah class. $.00, Finger printing was free with local LEO's.

Florida doesn't require a class.

Ahh, I beg to differ. Florida does require a class either taught by an NRA instructor or a police trainer or someone qualified to give a gun safety class. You can substitute that training with add-214 from the military or similar documentation.

Your are right about Florida, forgot about appending my DD-214. My hunting partner provided his hunter safety course certificate.

Utah requires a four hour block of classroom instructions and also believe I appended my DD-214.

My MN class offered the Utah package for the extra fingerprinting and application time for those interested. We had a few in class that signed up.

I wanted to take the Utah CCW class they offered in Deerfield not too long ago, but I figured it wouldn't do me much good because it's no good in Wisconsin. The only times I would ever use it are when I visited my buddies up in Minnesota or Indiana. Even then, you can't take it into bars with you I thought. And I don't know how many places have "No Guns Allowed" signs posted. I haven't checked, but I'd like to see when they're offering the NRA Pistol class in my area. I saw they were doing the Utah CCW class in Fort Atkinson, WI coming up pretty soon. I might try to sign up for the one they're offering in Fort. How often do you have to renew your Utah permit anyway? Isn't it like every 5 years? I guess it's worth the money. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Florida requires some kind of training "class" with it. I have a hunter's safety card, and as far as I know, if you have a hunter's safety card, you can use that as your training. I'd have to look it up, but there are a number of things that count as your training. Like if you've taken the NRA Pistol class, hunter's safety, there's a couple other ones.

For some reason, there are fewer places around here that have 'no guns allowed' signs, even though businesses are able to ban guns as they choose. I think in the beginning of permit days here, they thought every person would be armed and anarchy would commence, but that has not happened so they don't bother to ban guns anymore.

I liked Minnesota. I didn't even feel like I needed a firearm where I was. I was staying at my buddy's place that him and his co-workers rent over the summer when they were interning at Northwest Airlines (now Delta), and it was a couple blocks from Mall of America. I walked around at night and didn't even feel like I needed a gun. Here in Madison it seems more dangerous than where I was up in Minnesota. Indiana felt like a pretty safe place where I was too. Down around the racetrack. Maybe I just lucked out and ended up in the safer areas of those cities.

There are lots of places I will not go in MN, even with a gun. There are murders every day in Minneapolis, random attacks, gang related attacks, just like any large city. I don't go into Minneapolis often. I was armed when I went into Mall of America last time, there have been incidents in that place over the years. I only go there every ten years or so.

From the Utah web site certified instructors for CT. You'll have to figure out which one is close to you and then check out the cost. Good luck. Does CT issue a permit?
