Great cartridge and holder of many 100 and 200 yard benchrest records until the 22 and 6mm PPC came along in the mid 70s. Shooting match bullets with a heavy barrel the 222 is easily capable of 1/2MOA accuracy or better with handloads and makes it a great varmint round out to about 250 yds.
I have a couple of them and the powders both seem to like best are IMR 4198 and H322 shooting either Sierra or Hornady benchrest 52 and 53 gr bullets. Charge weights will of course vary but 19.5 to 20.5 or 4198 works well for me as do loads of approx 21.5 grs of H322. I've also found that reloader 7 can produce some excellent accuracy, but I seem to get the highest MV from R7 and use it primarily for varmint hunting loads. Work up to max loads carefully with R7 as I have found that pressures can jump suddenly with only small increases in powder charges.
There are several newer powders I have yet to try and have read that Hodgdon Benchmark also performs well in the 222. Probably my favorite 22 centerfire, well along with the 22PPC.
