What is the best way to clean up old stocks (refering to my collection posted elsewhere). Should I use Pledge or what? How about any heavy scratches?

Depends on what type finish is on the stocks.
I have used everything from Murphey's Oil Soap to linseed oil. Pledge would probably work also. On some I have used Johnson's paste wax
On grungy military stocks wiping with mineral spirits will help remove oil especially if the stock is warmed slightly first( I just let mine lie in the hot sun)

I've had good luck, at least with old military stocks, using furniture refinisher, available from Wally World...

A couple of applications with a lot of rubbing will take off most of the old finish, and remove a lot of oil from the stock...

It will also dry it out pretty quickly, just like baking out the old oil, so you need to get oil back into it pretty quick to avoid cracking....

I use Tru-Oil, or recently i have been using an "Arrow" finishing oil that I picked up at a gun show after a demonstration...
