Default Workers needed in Australia

article from todays paper

The pay-dirt that Aussies don't dig

THE $9.5 billion Roy Hill mine is where lucrative mining jobs exist that Australians didn't want.
Up to 1715 foreign workers will soon be employed on Gina Rinehart's giant Pilbara project with a mega-infrastructure schedule that puts Sydney to shame.
They will live in a mining camp, which is destined to have a pool, movie theatre, sports courts and a bar. Rooms in a temporary village already have ensuites and Foxtel.
Mrs Rinehart allowed The Daily Telegraph to tour the mine site this week.
In just nine months, an airport for passenger jets, up to 737s in size, will be finished, with 30 per cent of the runway completed after just eight weeks.
It will take Roy Hill workers stationed in remote rail gangs 18 months to build more than 340km of rail line to carry 55 million tonnes of iron ore each year from the mine near Newman to the coast at Port Hedland, where a port will be constructed.
Roy Hill plans to use driverless trains with more than 200 carriages that will travel the route with a command centre in the mine's Perth office. GPS will also control driverless trucks.
By contrast, in Sydney a pedestrian bridge built by the state government over Epping Rd outside Epping Boys High School will have taken a year to complete when it is finished next month.
At Roy Hill, work on the $200 million mining village is due to begin and spokesman Darryl Hockey said mines compete for the best camp facilities to attract - and retain - workers.
"That's the holy grail. The churn rate is what kills you," he said.
During the construction phase of mines, the turnover rate can be as high as 40-60 per cent a year.
The federal government granted an enterprise migration agreement for up to 1715 foreign workers for the three-year construction phase to fill places Australians could not be found to fill.
Roy Hill is about to begin a national recruitment drive.
Any foreign workers used will spend four weeks at Roy Hill and then be flown to Perth for a week off, with the same pay and conditions as local construction workers.
Another 6785 Australians will work on construction and there will be 2000 training places. Roy Hill intends to employ 2000 local workers for the next two decades.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry in WA said few workers in the eastern states were taking up opportunities in WA mines.
Just 5257 mining workers fly-in, fly-out from other states, with the industry employing 101,100 people.
A recent federal government $9000 relocation grant attracted just 596 people to move for work, with just 48 people going to WA.
"Traditionally WA has always had a significantly greater number of overseas workers coming to WA versus interstate," a chamber spokesman said.
"There are likely many reasons for this, including many reluctant to move away from support structures and family, concerns about social infrastructure like schooling and healthcare and the relative high living costs in WA.
"WA is the growth area of the economy and there are some fantastic opportunities for interstate workers to come to a dynamic and growing state that welcomes skilled workers with open arms."
Skilled foreign workers already in WA mines predominantly come from the UK, Ireland, the Philippines, the US, India, South Africa, China and Canada.
This year, the WA mining industry will need almost 120,000 workers, up from 75,000 three years ago, with the Pilbara region in need of 34,000 extra workers.
A fly-in fly-out welder can earn $100,000-$140,000 a year, an engineer $125,000-$170,000 and a manager $180,000-$285,000.

Sounds tempting. The company that I was working for was CQMS Razer, an Austrailian company. They shut the plant I was working for down. Some of them were rotten in how they treated us. They left town after messing us over.
I don't believe for 1 second that they represent the Aussie people. One in particular needed to get beat to a pulp. Bastard was rude! Stuck his finger in the men's chest, and chewed them out. Didn't say hello, or nothing. I was on a forklift, so he couldn't reach me. He would not like it if he did.

I sent this to my son. Hope he looks it over IF serious about Austrailia. he contacted one of the people at the links you posted in my topic asking you, they are to get back with him this month. Thanks jack. IF he does decide to go to Austrialia, he will dislike the gun laws but at that pay, he will adjust.

Well. As long as you leave your guns behind here in the US.

We all know the anti-gun policies down under.

Obviously, the wages are secondary to whatever the other problems are there. I guess if one just ups and quits, they're on their own from there. Sounds rough.

The difference between corporate, private enterprise, investing in infrastructure to get the job done to make money to bolster the economy, and government finding ways of spending taxpayers' dollars. Building that bridge has probably had traffic tied up for months.

No doubt about it. The wages are there at the mines, but the workers earn it.

many wont , we have a welfare state

what i been telling you ...

i'm a 28 year veteran who gets a 25 year pension and a 30% disability

but someone who wont work and applies for the dole will get $130 a week more than what i get and they are allowed to apply for rental assistance which may be another $200 a week

why bloody work ?? they get way more than i do and for doing nothing so when folks ask why they wont work take a look at our immigration figures 90% of those who come here as refugee's will never have a job

most who come here send money home at a rate thats now like a billion a month

we're going broke fast

i cant pass the medical or i'd be at roxby downs ( uranium mine near my old home near wilpena pound in South Australia , i was the powder monkey shot firer there until the medical board reassessed me ( i lied on my application that i was fit )

a 45 min drive to work , do 3 days work every 2 weeks ( placing the charges in the holes the drill teams drill ) and was getting $890 a week after all taxes and expences and i was part time

i got to shoot 25 foxes a week all A grade to get that.. and its rare to get 20 A grade pelts a week , too much mange and other issues let alone 25..

yes i'd be there and many friends too but look at the comments below the story , you'll see many aussies do apply but cant get roles , the slightest medical issues and they wont take you .. they also wont take folks who have drug or drinking histories ..

too many here rather do nothing but sit with their hands out

and they be doing the exact same thing to you folks

and when a lot of folks in the USA wont work they'll flood you with folks who will

like here

Jack, many years ago I read how difficult it was to move to Australia. You had to prove that you had a certain level of income or resources, so that you WOULDN'T be at risk of becoming a burden on society. Couldn't prove you had the money, or job, or resources, nope, not getting in. Sounds like things have changed drastically.

still have to if your white and christian , so jump on a boat arrive here with no papers and just grunt at all questions and within the week you'll be housed fed and have bank accounts opened for you and money deposited

if you dont

que up like everyone else

these are all temp work visa's now if your a muslim you can dodge the issue of going home by saying you';ll be persecuted but if you aint they'll hunt you down and throw you out if you overstay

more double standards ..

the gov is working hard to bring in only asians and such

some mines are already hiring only cheapo overseas labour

but for now we need folks to build the infrastructure so they bee paying , but i'll wager give it 5-10 years and the market will be closed

and they'll only hire cheapo labour from indonesia or some other place that hates us all here
