Question My girlfriend wants a 9mm

My girlfriend went shootihg with me and now she wants her own pistol. Now for the hard part.... she liked the feel of my 1911 and liked shooting it, with the 22 conversion kit on it. The 45 is to much for her, so I am thinking a 9mm. She also would like it to work for home defense so I dont like anything smaller. Next she wants semi-auto not revolver. Now the funny part, she wants it "pretty" like the guns at the shows I have taken her to. She wants to be able to change the grips to pink or something like that.

I have no idea about 9mm's and the only one I could think of is a 1911 9mm but they can be a little pricy.

Any ideas are appreciated!

Smith & Wesson makes a version of their M&P 9mm pistol with a pink grip insert.

Para-Ordnance PXT 1911 Single-Action Single Stack

Pros: 1911 size/style frame, steel, 9+1 mag, looks like you can change the grips, like the 1911.

Cons: Costs nearly $1000.

http://www.paraord.com/new/product_pistol.php?id=72

Kimber Pro Carry II

Pros: More concealable then then most other 1911 style frames. Still holds 9 rounds plus one in the chamber. The frame is alloy so it is lighter but don't be afraid of an alloy frame, I'm not.

Cons: Again, the price is a bit step, at $888, per Kimber's site.

http://www.kimberamerica.com/pistols.../pro_carry_II/

Another great pistol is the Sig P6

Pros: Generally cheap, per gun store, I suppose ($259-300). 8+1 rnd capacity. All the guns are surplus German police trade-in imports which means they are tried and true. You can replace the grips.

Cons: It may show a little wear on the edges and high spots.

An example.
http://www.jgsales.com/product_info....oducts_id/1903

Shame your GF doesn't want a revolver, S&W makes a great 442 with pink grips and it shouldn't be more then $575.
http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/w...02&isFirearm=Y

I can't think of anything else, but I'm sure the other guys and gals will.

Personally, I would go with a Glock for her, detroit, preferably a G26. But to each his own. Taurus also make a very nice and relatively inexpensive 9mm in their Millennium Pro series. If you really want a 9mm, in steel, and that functions much like the 1911, take a look at the Browning Hi Powers. They are not cheap, but very fine weapons.

The grip on the 92 is a bit full. I know my wife wouldn't be able to comfortably handle it, but everyone's different...

The baby brother to the 92/96 is the Beretta/Stoeger Cougar 8000. The frame is made of alloy but it is as durable as its bigger brother.

Really, I don't see why people complain about alloy, since steel is an alloy.

Let her try a cZ to see if it fits her hand.
Bersas are inexpensive, but the grips are a bit bulky.

On thing I forgot was the Browning/Belgium Hi-Power, same great design as the 1911 but designed for the 9mm. You can find 'em online, like auctions, and at local dealers. Also, keep an ear out for gun shows.

Detroit....On the 9mm 1911, I thought about that too for my girlfriend since she really has a lot of fun with 9mm, but on further consideration I decided not too because a 1911 is very much not a novice handgun. A good beginner 9mm would be Glock, XD, 92C, PT 92C, PT 909 or 911M&P, CZ75, H&K, PF9, Walther P99, etc......the striker fired pistols a great for beginners because there is less to learn, reliability, and consistant trigger operation, so more time to practice fundamentals and drills....the DA/SA pistols take a bit more effort to master, plus the safety/decocker must be constantly taught and reinforced every step.

Hey Detroit, I would second on marrying her...gotta love a wife that shoots. My wife is very much a revolver woman, however the one time she learned towards a semi-auto pistol was for a Sig 229. The have a good weight on them to absorb the recoil and a nice grip.

My wife, who gave me a Springfield 1911 for a wedding gift, fell in love with my Browning 9mm Hi-Power Practical when she saw it. However she preferred .45 ACP calibre. I gave her a Springfield MicroCompact 1911 for our first anniversary !!!!!

I'd have to agree with the others. Hang on to this one and don't let her get away !!!!!!

My 64 year old wife (115 lbs) has a SIG P239 in 9mm. It's sleek, graceful and deadly accurate, the perfect carry gun for her. Plus, it's easy enough to shoot that she practices a lot with it (she got it 16 months ago, and she's put upwards of 7000 rounds through it).

I'm not sure I'd call it pretty, but to the extent that its form follows its function, it is beautiful indeed.

How much do you like her?

HK P7 M8 is the best small package then the mid size Glock. If you go to small then they do become hard to handle.

Why don't you go after a SIG P-6 at budsgunshop.com or one of the other online stores and dress it up for her? They're turn-in police guns from Germany and you can get some really awesome deals. Prices are ranging between $259 & $350.00 from what I've seen. Most of them have holster wear but haven't been shot a lot. mine is 27 yrs old but it is in awesome condition. They can also be found at gun shows. That's where I bought mine this spring. 9mm, semi-auto. Here's a link and an email address to a guy that can really dress it up for you: customizedcreationz.com guns@customizedcreationz.com

He does some awesome work. Just a suggestion. Here's mine below:

It's not sexy but Todd can make it very very bootyful!

Good luck in what ever you decide to do. I wish my wife would agree to go to the range with me. God bless!
