S & W Model 640 - The Firearms Forum

For carry, is the S & W 640 a smart buy? I'd like to have a minimum 3" barrel. Any others I should consider (in a revolver)?

i have a 640 .357mag centennial model ,2 1/8 inch barrel

no hammer to snag on ,and you could shoot through a pocket ,or purse for the ladies

it is the little one of course

The J frame Smith & Wesson is made for carry. Good choice for concealment.

Thanks for posting the pics. Makes me wanna go out and buy, buy, buy! Does the 640 come in a 3" barrel?

I own a S&W J frame Air weight hammerless, for back up. Good pocket gun. and as postal says, you can shoot through a jacket and not have to worry about the hammer snaggin on material.
You can shoot +p's through it also.

i am not for sure if they offer one in three inch ,but i wouldn't let 7/8 inch be a factor ,smith does tend to make special runs now and again ,i did have a model 36 .38special in 3" ,it had a hammer ,wish i never sold it
