Hi all. I am a metal detectorist in the UK, recently I dug up what looks like a gun trigger. Not knowing anything about guns I wondered if one of you fine chaps could help me? I have no idea on it's age and comes from land that has produces finds of up to 500 years old, so may well be an older gun and not modern.
Any ideas on the age and model gun (if any) it would have come from? Thanks.

Hi Diggy and welcome to TFF. We are at least going to have to have a picture of it. If not, then not much anyone can do. It's like asking the question "I have a rock can you tell me its composition?". Glad to have you with us. Maybe if you can post a picture, we might be able to help. Cheers!

I can see the pic, diggy. I can't give you an answer, though.

Couldn't say for sure, but it is a strong, light weight, non ferrous alloy.

Diggy, welcome!
The 'lightweight, non ferrous alloy' part of your post almost certainly dates the piece to the WWII, or later, period, as aluminum only came into common use, even in aircraft, then. Glad to hear I'm not the only 'gun freak' on this board with other hobbies; would be interested, off list, to hear about the gear you use, in your 'detecting' hobby! My e-mail is vfubar@ aol.com. Will continue to look at a few resources, to identify your find!

Thanks for all the replies so far, it has now been suggested it is not a trigger after all! A chap in the UK has suggested it is a gear lever from a Stermey Archer setup before they introduced platic
I don't know which is more likely! A gun trigger would be more likely in a farmers field half a mile from the nearest road where hunting was once common place....As for my detecting gear stash247, I use a Minelab Sovereign XS-2A. Good machine for both inland and beach detecting, has excellent Iron masking and is sensitive enough to find a hammered coin .25mm thick in silver at a depth of around 7 inches. I have no real interest in guns i'm afraid, must admit I only joined this group as you guys seemed to know your weapons and might help me with my trigger thingy! If you have interest in detecting head along to www.ukdetectornet.co.uk, a great detecting forum or take a look at my site at www.diggysfinds.co.uk for a few of the bits I have found. |
