Not much to choose from in neighborhood store for powders. I chose HP-38 to load both my 9mm and 45acp. Not much of a powder charge in 45acp, lot's of room in the case. Just wondering if anyone uses it in their 45acp.

HP-38 is the same thing as 231, which I have shot a virtual ton of in the .45acp, and in the 9mm. My recollection is that the one has 'taggants', and the other does not.

HP-38 is Hodgdon's Winchester 231. I think Winchester makes it for them (???). Hodgdon, I believe, makes no powder themselves but buy from powder manufacturers around the world. Recently they bought some powder companies but the name on the bottles is still the original companys'.
I use either in 45 ACP all the time. I load them at 5.6 grains for 230 gr RN FMJ bullets. Works in my 1911, my CZ and my Witness just fine. HP38 (alias for Win 231) is a universal powder for most handgun cartridges, both big and little. At least that's the way I use it. It minimises my powder stores, plus it works well in all cartridges that I have tried it in. LDBennett |

Thanks LD, I've just started reloading and wanted a powder to use in both my 9mm and 45acp. Loaded some 9mm and they worked fine. Loaded a few 45acp and have not tried them, 4.3 grns. Same powder charge as my 9mm, shooting 125 jhp in the 9 and 230 fmj in the 45.
