Default George Orwells 1984

With everything that's been going on the last 40 years, what's your opinion?

Big Brother is more real than I could have ever imagined it.
Thought police/political correctness/hate crimes, just scary.

Orwell said the TV would be the eyes for Big Brother. He got that part of it wrong, it's the computer.

Red tells the truth. I never thought I would live to fear my country's government.

The Thought Police is political correctness.

I saw a poll yesterday on Fox News that says that only 9% of the people who voted for Obama regretted voting for him. If that's true and he's re-elected then 3 years would be a stretch. If war breaks out in the Middle East before next summer and Damascus disappears, causing great fear and global perplexity, to include suspending the presidential election, it's a no brainer.

Curiously, the Hurt/Burton film actually followed the book with an amazing degree of accuracy. As I recall, they even changed the release date so it could be up for an Oscar nomination following Burton's death.

An average person is on a camera nine times a day. Omitting the obvious places ( court houses, cell phones, etc. ). Folks are going nuts here over street lights cameras. Humbug, if they only knew. And theses same folks sit home watching the news clips about a bad guy being caught on cameras, and wonder " how did they get those ".

Read it here:

Watch it here:

I read the book 40 years ago. Not a year goes by that 'current' events don't send us closer.

Nostradamus has nothing on Orwell.

I just got a thought that would combine two movies. Needs to be done well, of course. But it would make ya rich overnight.

Combine Orwell's 1984, with Fahrenheit 451. That would be killer.

Dont believe those polls. In fact they are gona say the republican has no chance. I was listening to Mark Levin the other day and he pulled an article from one of the big news magazines that had Regan behind Carter. And that was only 5 weeks berfore the election. We all know what happened. I dont buy what their selling. "They" the media (even fox)is bought and paid for. Your getting the news according to the puppetmaster. I think alot more than 9% stopped drinking the kool aid. This shyster will be removed from offcice - period. Just do your part and vote.

They don't need Orwells vision of the future. Huxley's" Brave New World" gives a much better example of what's going on now. just give the masses what they want and you control them completely. No worries equal no desire , no creativity, no goals, pure blind obedience without dissent.

I don't believe polls, I was just sharing what I heard. However, I disagree that a lot more than 9% stopped drinking the Kool Aid, quite to the contrary. As much as I would like to agree with you that Obama will be removed from office, I'm far from being optimistic. It's a fact that Obama has been groomed long before he entered the race in 2008, to be the architect responsible to undermine our Constitution and our economy to present America membership in the New World Order. In no way will the "powers to be" allow Obama's key position and agenda to be dismantled at this high point in the game. All that is needed is his re-election to be free from any social or political restraint (two term limit) to proceed as directed. I'm not so naive as to believe that our government is not just as much a willing participant in the NWO agenda as is the United Nations Assembly.
1% of the people make things happen, 9% of the people watch things happen, and 90% of the people ask, what happened? Considering that and the fact that the Democrats have become Socialists, the Republicans have become Democrats, and the only thing bi-partisan is corruption, it's a one way street leading to our destruction. However, if it makes you feel any better, I'll still do my part and vote.

And jack404, I've learned much reading your posts, and I truly feel for the Australian people. But Australia isn't the U.S. and never was.
Your leaders have often had a propensity to follow the U.K. leadership, and I believe those close ties were part of your present situation. I could be wrong on that, but I'm convinced the U.S. isn't going that route.
If one looks at the increasing firearms sales, the number of States that ratified concealed carry, the overwhelming anti-Obamacare sentiment and the current battle in N.Y. over mosques, it's clear Americans are not going to go down that road without being dragged kicking and screaming.
I can still go into a shop and buy a gun and walk out with it ( I just did on Friday, took less than 20 minutes) and I can still get in my car and go where ever I want without checkpoints and travel papers, so the Orwellian stuff is way overboard right now.
No, it's not tin hat for the Euro's and Aussies, but none of them ever really had a Constitution as we do. And THAT really is why I'm not "tin hat" scared or concerned.
We MUST remain ever vigilent of course, but over wrought comparisons and doom and gloom often make us look silly to those who don't pay attention,
and it's the silly swing voters whom we don't want being scared of us (the gunny's or gun nuts).
