Just watched an episode of american shooter, and they were showin an old smith and wesson, it was a tip down barrel design and when, latch on the top of the frame. when you tip it down teh extractor automatically pops up and emptys shells, they said you could also have it extract only empty shells leaving the live ones behind, any of yall know how that works??

I'm the kind that has to take things apart to know how they work, so I need an explaination

You mean a Webley? or whatever its called....

Seems like a simple design to me. I heard that when it was cracked open a spring would pop the spent cases out and you could get the new ones in faster....?

It was supposed to be a heck of a design. I don't know why it did'nt catch on. THe frame must not have been as sturdy as the frames on the regular revolvers? I dunno..

He's probably talking about a S&W Number 3. It was a break top revolver. There is also a Number 1 and 2. yes, Webley also made one, but I believe S&W made it first.

Many companies made them ,forehand and wadsworth ,H&R ,S&W ,stevens was just a few

It was a weak design for obvious reasons ,the auto extractor popped up rather than manual the light empty shells went flying ,the heavy ones stayed in {most of the time},the loaded shells are also longer ,and didn’t pop up as far
