Default Colt 1991A1 series 80 1911 in a matte stainless finish

I am looking at buying a used Colt 1991A1 series 80 1911 in a matte stainless finish. Low round count. In good condition with a few blemishes. Comes with the original Colt magazine, box, and papers. Also including a set of Pachmayr American Legend grips, and an Uncle Mikes paddle holster.
Seller is asking $680 cash.

Is this a good buy or??

I'm no expert but I think the price is reasonable. Maybe knock him down to $650?

Is that a plastic trigger? I would swap that out.

With all the goodies, I think the price is very reasonable.

Is this .45 cal? I have a Series 80 in .38 Super, and it is a very good and reliable shooter. Some people turn their nose up at the firing-pin safety, but not I. Colt first incorporated that safety in Model 1911s sometime in the '30s, dropped it during the war, and just brought it back with the Series 80. Now other 1911 copy-cats are incorporating the firing-pin safety.

Ask the seller if you can dry fire it to check that the trigger pull feels OK to you.

I can't tell for sure, but is there a light "idiot scratch" from the slide stop? If so, knock off $50 or so. Also, put the unloaded gun in battery, remove the magazine, and shake the gun - any sound of excessive looseness between the slide and frame? A little rattle is OK. As always, check the bore. See if the seller will let you shoot a box of good, name-brand ammo through it, and if there are failures to feed or eject, that he will take it back.

Personally, I would strip off those goofy-looking grips and put the original ones back on.

A new one goes for $800+. I think the asking price is in the right ballpark.

Colt has incorporated the firing pin safety fpr one reason - they can't sell guns without it in CA. The current system is not the same as the Schwartz safety used in the 1930's Colts, but it does essentially the same thing.
