Five of us old guys had a great day at the range today. One brought a new revolver. It is an S&W Model 627-5 .357mag. It is an eight shot revolver and uses full moon clips. It is a real beast of a hand gun. While only using .38spl. reloads none of us was up to testing the capabilities of this fine revolver an I will not bore you with the results. It is a competition gun and most of these old timers are in no way competition qualified. Still it is nice see and shoot something new.

Beth here is a site that shows the clips. I think originally they were developed to allow auto cartridges to be fired in revolvers. Since the auto cartridge had no way to head space in the revolve the moon clips and half moon clips were developed to provide a rim for the auto cartridges to head space in the revolver cylinder. The individual rounds are fastened into the moon clips and then the whole thing is dropped into the revolver cylinder. Many competition shoots now use them as a rapid way to load and unload revolvers especially these seven and eight round revolvers now used.http://www.midwayusa.com/Search/#Moo...__-_1-2-4_8-16
