winchester 1893 - The Firearms Forum

Hi fellas, I'm new to this site so I thought I'd throw out a question or two. I'll start with the things I know... Recently found a winchester 1893 (I think all original) but very strange configuration. Maybe a special order gun. Serial #56xx. 1894 production date gun. Very short barrel, gold trigger and gold hammer, extended tube goes clear to the end of the barrel (2-5/8 chamber, so I'm unsure of the magazine capacity) wood is definetely original but the receiver and barrel finish is very shiny silver (nickel???) magazine tube and barrel band are blued. I already sent my $25 to the Cody Firearms museum to have their records dept. tell me how it left the factory. The girl in records told me the manufacure date and "that it looked like a special order gun" but she'd need my money before she could pull up the archives. (I think she just said that to get my bloodpressure up). But anyway, I was just wondering if anyone out there could share their wisdom with an old Ohio Hillbilly.

ironman,I can't pull up an 1893 Winchester I get.

1892 Model 1892 lever action introduced.
1894 Model 1894 lever action introduced. The 94 is without doubt the most famous of all deer hunting rifles in history. In addition, no rifle came to symbolize the romance of the West more that the Winchester Model 94.
1895 Model 1895 centerfire rifle introduced. Utilizes a box magazine especially designed to accommodate the recently introduced high power smokeless cartridges and pointed bullets.

But no 1893?

Total production 34,555

Second year gun based on serial number.

Winchester almost always says that---it`s a money thing-lol

A picture is worth at least ten words.

I know the transition to smokless powder was taking place during that time and the receivers on 1893's weren't strong enough to take the new loads so winchester offered to give you a new and improved 1897 if you brought in your 1893. I wonder how many of them are left out there?

The 20" barrel was the Riot Shotgun.

hi i have a model 1893 as well made nov 25, 1890 but the slide doesnt come back when i cock it to push the hammer back i was wondering if anyone knew of some diagrams or parts lists of the gun, im thinking it might be missing a piece.

I have a Winchester 1893 12 Gauge Shotgun,but the slide is broken does anybody know where I can get one? It is a B series gun manufactured in 1897 with a 30" barrel. What is the value of a gun like this? Serial #32127.

I have a model 1893 and the only thing I need for it is a slide for the action. You wouldn't know where I could get one?

Hello Lawrence,

Your Model 1893 was serialized in December of 1896, and received in the warehouse in January of 1897.

The value is tough to say without actually seeing the gun. That said, if it has missing or broken parts, it will be tough to get much more than $500 for it.

The total Model 1893 production was several hundred guns fewer than the number you quoted. The last recorded Model 1893 serial number was 34,406, and from serial number 34,151 onward, there were fewer than a handful of 1893s made.

Serial 54xx was manufactured in November of 1893, making it a first year production gun (serial 7958 was the last receiver serialized in the year 1893).
