Where do each of you usually shoot? Sometimes a range is nice because of the order and organization, but sometimes it's nice to just go out in the wilderness and plink a bit.

Actually, around here, I could in any of the first three if I wanted to. Shooting in my backyard though, would probably get me arrested! I beling to an outdoor range and much prefer it to any indoor range.

I maked in my back yard, but I have to walk one block. I think that is close enough and this is the reason that I moved to New Mexico!

I don't really have much of a choice, so I go to the local indoor range. Which isn't so bad, it is out of the elements and I don't have to climb over a snowbank 3 months out of the year.
![]() I have shot at outdoor ranges as well, but so far I prefer the indoor ranges. I guess that makes me odd (or odder depending on who you ask). |

All of the above?
#1 and 2 most of the time. #3 Used to all the time, but not so much anymore. Ranges = less hassle. #4 For a “few” rounds, like when I am testing something out or sighting it in. Too many shots, and the neighbors can get testy.

Only in the local outdoor range. There are some indoors, but I don't like. We have 2 great outdoors here, so the place to go. And just as a note, it is illegal to shoot in the wilderness, if You get caught, You're in deep trouble. Some fellows do, I prefer not to risk.

We have a great outdoor facility nearby in the National Forest. Makes it convenient and very inexpensive, only $ 1.50 to get in with my disability pass!!!!

I'm lucky. The forest service has a range that they maintain for the public just a little ways away from here. Unless it's right before hunting season, I dont have to worry about many people being there and I can do what I want without having to worry about people being idiots.

Probably "rural wilderness" more often than outdoor range, because we get to blow stuff up (ever seen Kingjoey's lawnmower and computer pics?
). The outdoor range, however, is closer and well maintained, so it comes in a close second. It has trap ranges, too ![]() |

My son lives about 10 miles from me and the wilderness starts at the edge of his backyard. He built a small outdoor range there a few years ago and we use it mostly for handguns unless just trying out a new rifle. Plenty of backstop but not much range for rifles. We used to have a very large rural gravel pit with 40 - 50 foot banks but suddenbly it's posted for no shooting.

I'm 2 miles from one of only 2 outdoor public ranges in the county. After 8 years of membership in the private club, I was Lucky? enough to get involved w/ the Politics. We only shoot Airgun indoors.
Hey Flopshot, If you don't teach your wife to reload...she'll probably keep you around! My wife doesn't shoot, so I still have to clean my guns & my bathroom. But she is a great cook & provider! ![]()

There is a nice outdoor range half way between home and work, so it is really easy for me to stop off on the way home and burn through a box or two. I seldom shoot indoors as the ones in my area are not ventilated very well.

I appreciate all of your responses.
I'm still looking for more specific info though. I've asked a lot of people who are very knowledgeable about hunting and shooting, and no one I have spoken with has a clear answer on where a person can and cannot shoot. The subject is very vague. Some people will say one thing, while others will say the exact opposite. Isn't there anywhere that I could get specific info? Like maps? State by state laws? (I'm new to this.) I just want to stay out of trouble. Thanks again to all of you for your help. |

ok,lurpy that is different. you can shoot on any private land as long as you get the owners permission, obviously , you cant do this inside city limits, with neighbors and such. they will be more tenable if you offer them sometingh in exch, sya ridding of varmisnt , coyotes, etc. as for other land, you should call your state wildlife office and fidn out what they say.
