Default Rodentantor!

What with all the long faces resulting from the news of the recent departure of MJ, I thought everyone might get a kick outta seeing this device in action. If you've seen it before, it still might bring a smile!

(If we could just alter it a bit for squirrel removal, it would make a wonderful "Hands Across the Sea" gift for Tranter! Or, maybe he could snag the UK franchise!)

Dang. Kinda makes me almost wish that I had a gopher problem.

Sorta like a demented version of "Pop Goes The Weasel".

The alfalfa ranchers around here have been doing this for years using long wands with bbq starters. My neighbor was telling me about one hole that he blew a few years ago.... the gopher got blasted into the air and was on fire. The little S.O.B. heads straight for the sagebrush and starts the sage on fire!

That's a video I would have paid money to see!

Hm, not exactly sporting is it.

I mean when I draw a bead, give it some lead and send it into the next world minus its head, I get a feeling of accomplishment. This is, well, too easy.

I've heard of using a vacuum truck to get them. The Rodenator is cheaper and looks like more fun.

We'll take up a collection Tranter, get you a shovel, you can burrow down in there and take 'em out "sporting" like. Go in after them like a Viet Nam era tunnel rat! Did you ever hear about the two Englishmen who were hunting? One took a shot and the other said "I say old chap you almost shot my wife!" The other replied "So sorry old chap! Here have a shot at mine!" We don't worry so much about sporting here in the US of A.

It would probably be effective on PETA members, as well!

Tranter, out where I am, these little rodents cause hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage in an alfalfa field.

When you pick up a normal bale of 3 wire hay and it's around 125+/- pounds, then pick up one that's about 175lbs because of the dirt the baler picked up from hitting a gopher mound(s), ain't no sport to it, it dollars and cents. That bale goes into the trash because it can't be fed.

That's $$ out of the growers pocket if he has to replace several ton or $$ that the consumer paid that can be consumed by the stock. Of 35 ton of hay this past year, my grower has had to replace over 3 ton. He can't poison them because he's growing organic hay for the milk cows so he can't use chemical fertilizer or have any chemicals in the field at all that aren't organic.

Tim, I'm a firm believer that you can't apply a human attribute to non-human entities. "Inhumane" in my opinion, only applys to humans. Cruel is another story........poison?

They are varmits for pete's sake. There's nothing 'humane' in seeing a cow with a broken leg 'cause she stepped in a gopher hole. Or (shudder) a horse!

When I was fighting them, I'd just pour a little propane down the hole. About 10 seconds from a 20 lb can. Propane is heavier than air. When you start messing with a gopher hole, they first head for the den at the bottom of the hole. They suffocate quickly and become fertilizer.

Thanks for the pointer SaddleSarge. I see what you mean. I am a city lad and have no experience in the field of agriculture (Little pun for pistol).

My gas would not have to be ignited to cause death.....

That would make a good charging mechanism for spud cannons. I remember looking at a system on the internet a few years back for discharging exact ammounts of propane into a spud cannot chamber. Basicly two valves with a pressure guage in between them.
That rodenator was automatic. Problem is its $1200 bucks....

Looks fun though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
