Does anyone have one? I tried unique and bullseye, great for 9mm but the front of my 1911 is black from these powders after 50 rounds. Thanks!

Unique is a slower burning powder...It does fine in my 45 and win 231 is faster and cleaner. I use 7.7 gr on unique in my 45 with a 185gr bullet. I am going to make a stronger charge for my carbine to increase velocity. I would not use unique in 9mm...smaller primer and load...in a 45, larger primer and more wider space to ignite the powder.
I would still use the loadbooks for reference and go with your own judgement. Use my info and others as a point of reference and then use the books to confirm what you want to do. J |

Not so much with 45acp, just got my new SA 1911 milspec and going through load developments, thanks for your help though. I am using 230gr hornady's so I'm trying to hit a good powder without waiting for months sampling all the different powders, all input is appreciated greatly!

try about 5.0-5.3 gr of HP-38 or W231 under those 230s. I seat Missouri softballs to 1.250" and all 8 rounds will easily go into a thumb sized hole at 20 yds if i do my part. they will leave a bronze colored residue on the muzzle end after 50-100 rds but its not bad. plus the accuracy is worth it.

I have not really loaded the 230gr...they have been hard to find and I have been using the Zero 185gr. I like them soooo far. The 230 have more knock down, but not much velocity. I like the higher velocity...which is why they have so many different types of recipes.

it doesnt take a whole lot of velocity to get the point accross when the bullet resembles a lugnut. I have seen a .45ACP bullet fired into a bulls skull at point blank and it penetrated the length of his spine to his abdominal cavity. it was a 230 gr lead bullet loaded to about 800 fps. Gimme slow n' heavy any day

JLA, I LOL when I saw lugnut. I have a 10mm that I like 180 gr in and in 45 I like the 185 for my carbine and may start using 230 in my 45compact. I do like the idea for shooting lugnuts at close range. The carbine I want to shoot 25-40 yds and keep my grouping.

I like to use Power Pistol behind a 230g ball. Pretty clean, meters very well, and quite accurate. I keep a stock of Power Pistol around for most of my 9mms, .45s, .38s, and .357s.

I Like Red dot. It's versatile and is the cleanest powder I have ever used. I always loaded it for 9MM though. I would like to get a good red dot 45 load myself for 200r SWC lead 451 and 452's. Any ideas anyone??

Unique & Power Pistol are my 2 powders of choice when loading 45acp.I like Unique for target practice (very low power loads), but use Power Pistol for most medium & full power loads under a Hornady "lugnut". The soot from Unique is the trade-off for the perfect plinker load. "...it doesnt take a whole lot of velocity to get the point accross when the bullet resembles a lugnut." @ JLA; I've added that to my favorite sig lines! ROTF-LMAO!!!! ![]() SR
