How about factory seconds? I have noticed seconds in .22LR showing up at my local gun shop, as well as .223 and some others, and I know someone who is getting Federal .303s from someone who works at Federal. Are seconds mostly blemished casings and that sort of thing??

Are those 'seconds' much cheaper??? That seems unsafe.

Like stained, or scratched? Wouldn't the performance be altered?

See, that's what I'm concerned about. I wouldn't buy anything that *might* have a quality control issue that could blow up in my hands. I doubt any of the big name manufacturers would be selling their seconds if they were a liability like that. Seems to me there would be brass problems, scratches or such. The .303s are priced at less than half of what I can buy them off the shelf for at the local gun shop. I should probably find some surplus bulk priced .303 that is not labeled 'seconds', just because the others freak me out!

I think next time I go to the gun shop, I'm going to discreetly open a box and check them out.

seconds are generally a random check revealed out of speck brass so they pull the whole lot.
it is not fit [sorry about that, chief] for LEO sale so it is discounted. more often than not you will shoot them by the hundreds and not have a single malfunction. if it was a powder issue, as in outside of accepted parameters, the lot would not leave the factory for obvious safety/legal reasons.

So, they might be out of specs, and not fit. Would that be a performance issue (velocity), reliability (ftf), appearance, or something else? I saw some a gun show recently, but was afraid to buy them. ![]()
