SW 24-6 "Classic"

Over the past few years Smith & Wesson has been releasing modern models of some of their original revolvers under the name "Classics." Identical to the originals except modern manufacture, technology, etc. (Which sadly includes the dreaded internal lock). Anyway a couple weeks ago I came across one of them at a show, the Model 24-6. .44 special. Beautiful gun, clean and tight., might be unfired as far as I can tell. Anyway I was able to grab it in a good trade and here it is:

A mix of old and new, it is still a beautiful revolver.

I'm pretty sure that if you pull those grips you will find that's a round-butt, instead of the square the original was.

Oh well, at least they didn't color-case the frame. Those are some of the ugliest dang guns I've ever seen.

I thought, a few years back, they quit making square butts.

I believe that they did stop making the square butts on new revolvers but app
arently kept them for the "Classics."

I know that was one of the complaints about the release of the "Classic 1917, made just like they used to be". It is a round-butt.

Ah well. It don't matter. I got 2 Smiths with the infernal lock, and I traded for both of 'em. New Smiths, especially "Classics" or "Custom Shop" ones, cost too dang much money for me, these days.

No question - only way to get one now is to find a good deal. - and that's not easy..
