The day was hot as we walked.
I knew that I would come, no matter how much I tried to resist. I saw them again... names I remembered from the last time. It seemed as if they burned themselves into my memory each trying to out yell the rest with their whispers "Please..please, PLEASE don't forget me. Remember me... don't forget..." He had never been there so I had to warn him- tell him how it would be how it would hurt. how it would haunt him. how it would change him from this moment on. how they would grab his hand when he touched the wall eager for human touch. With his easy loping stride he began step by step began to slow the tears and names flowing from him as we made the walk holding our breaths so as not to lose anything we felt. Finally we reached the end, daring to exhale full of the enormity of it all. Resisting the urge to walk the path again for fear we may have missed greeting someone. We rode to the bar in silence. Said the drink I offered was a good idea. the next 20 miles the souls we took with us found their rooms and settled into our hearts. figure they're there to stay. 102206 Bree it's not poetry, just something fighting to get out.

With a personal invitation from Bree, I read this composition over several times....I could not resist being touched with the thoughts and words therein scribed.....I thought to myself, Bree must have read one of the many times I have related here on the board that I do not have the courage to visit The Wall....Once someone read my lines and told me that I must overcome those feelings and inhibitions and go there for closure. Thank you for sharing Bree and for inviting me to ponder that which you have written. Chief

I'm at a loss for words, Bree. That's so very touching.

You said what I've never been able to put into words.
Thank You.

Many of us all feel the same. Thanks for setting it down, Bree.
