I went in to put a down payment on a Colt Officers Match revolver they suckered me in to buying, and they had a 1917 sitting there waiting for me, so I had to put that one on hold too.... (there goes my M1A money......
)the tin foil hat isn't working... they can still read my mind..... ![]()

By the way the Officers match is in 80% with an excellent bore
and the 1917 is in 90% with an excellent bore....

I sometimes feel like my local store is doing that to me, too. Except they know that I don't have any money any more (they got me once last week--my first handgun, a Sig Mosquito), so they just leave stuff out to taunt me!

Is the 1917 a Colt or Smith?

The Officers is a .38 spec.
The 1917 is a Colt, those damn cylinders on the Smiths rotate the wrong way...

what caliber is the 1917....psst if your running out of space n your safe, I could make room to safe guard it for ya.
It is a conspiracy....went yesterday bought a .22 cleaning rod and some patches $814. later.

I've owned both Smith and Colt M1917's. I'm definitely a Smith fan but did like that Colt, the only one that fit my hand well.

sort of, I just love the feel of DA Colt revolvers (but I can't stand SAA's) but I wouldn't put it past me to use one for CC from time to time, and they will accompany me on many trips to the range.... The Officers Match will make a great target pistol for myself and the Mrs. and the 1917 is well just cool.... My 1962 Detective special is my second favorite carry gun... ![]()

I must agree. Gun stores definitely have some sort of mind control device running at all times! Why, just a few weeks ago, I entered a local gun store to buy some perfectly innocuous 12-gauge trap loads . . . and ended up walking out with a Browning 20 gauge BPS in my hand!

Did you then have to buy 20g trap loads?
I'm picking them BOTH up tonight..... we'll see what else I end up putting on hold....

They sure are pretty, Angel.
Here in a bit I'm headed over to Evan Marshall's gun shop and range (the guy who did the "Stopping Power" books). Hopefully his mind reader is down today... |

I'm having trouble finding MFG dates, I'm going off the reciept, and I think they have the wrong #written down for the 1917, and I don't have the acess to the gun until after work... Am I looking for the # inside the frame of the one stamped on the bottom of the grip?
1917 # I have is 56 XXX but it's the number on the bottom of the grip with the "US Army" stamp the Officers Match looks like maybe a 1976? ser# is 911XXX Here is where I'm looking http://www.proofhouse.com/colt/index.html

The shop tossed 4 of them in with the deal, but Brownells, and Midway sell them, for about $1 each,
I'd like to find a few half-moons so I can toss em in my pocket for CC re-loads

UPDATE!
They did it to me again! I was going to get a Glock 20 (10mm), and I spy a Tattered brown box containing a 1954 Colt Marshall, so no more Glock..... ![]()
