More on the mystery 16 guage. Side by side double barrell. There is an emblem inside a diamond shape that says MAC, both on the back of the stock, and on the left side low and to the right just above the front of the trigger guard. The writing says Manufacture Nat. d'Armes de Chatellerault. Im not sure of the spelling of Chatellerault as it is hard to read. The barrell is Nickel Chrome and it is an "Acier Special" which I have learned means special steel. It has a European style grip, hand checkered pattern, slightly rounded behind the grip, as opposed to flat. Very simple gun. It isnt collector quality, as you can tell that it has been used. I only bought it b/c it is a 16 guage double barrell. Paid $250. A gun dealer couldnt ID it, but he said French, and probably built in 1930's. Serial # is 46470 Thanks. Can anybody help me find out about this gun?

Well, it certainly is French. That gunmaker located in Chatellerault, France was in business from before 1825 up until 1968. They made a huge variety of guns including automatic weapons for the military.

You probably did not get hurt on the price, but you should get a hands-on appraisal from someone knowledgable in European shotguns for a definitive $$ value. If you are in the southeast Texas area we'd be glad to help.
