Default 10mm reloading

I bought some 10mm cases by mistake, they were in the same box with the 40cal.

Is the bullet the same dia as the 40 cal?
Can I reload the 10mm cases with a 40 cal die?

Yes, and yes. But if you don't have a 10mm gun, what good are they?

Also, notice, 10mm uses Large primers, while 40 Smith uses Small primers.

Take them back and swap them if you can; if not, then resell them. 10mm is a little more expensive than .40's, so if you got them at the price of .40's, then you may just have found yourself a great excuse to go buy one of these :

Yeah, it's probably a stretch, but hey, One can dream can't they?

Ya.. I guess I will clean them and resell them.

OK, another question. Can I use the 40 cal bullet in the 10mm case?

Can you use the 40S&W bullet in the 10 mm case? YES

The 10 mm came out in the mid 1980's as a magnum level cartridge for a semi-auto pistol. The first gun out in reasonable supply levels in the USA was the Colt Delta Elite. The FBI took on the 10 mm but found most FBI women and small statured men had trouble with the heavy recoil. So at first they just down loaded 10 mm ammo but the guns were based on the big 1911 sized guns rather than the 9 mm framed guns made by most others. The guns were deemed too heavy and big so the FBI talked S&W into developing a 9 mm framed gun set up for a shortened case 10 mm they called the 40S&W.

So you see the 40S&W is just a shorter version of the 10 mm. They use the same bullets. In the redesign process the 40S&W ammo got small pistol primers rather than the large pistol primers of the 10 mm. Who knows why????

I shoot basically the same power level in both my Colt Delta Elite (10 mm) and my CZ75B (40S&W). I find the twisting recoil of a full load 10 mm a bit too much for punching paper and shooting at cans and find little need for the 10 mm Magnum performance. But I sure like the Colt Delta Elite gun platform.

Yeah, you can use 10's in a 40. As long as you do a whole lot of trimming and then reload them to 40 specs. But as is, no you can't use 10mm ammo in a 40 S&W handgun. Basically you're better off selling them.
