Anyone Try To Incorporate Leather Into Their Firearms? - The Firearms Forum

I was thinking that it could give both rugged and luxury look to have some leather on the grip or at the other parts of the stock.

I don't know people seem to put leathers everywhere. Maybe I can start manufacturing "high end" luxury models with specific market target.

somewhere i have a montecarlo stock that has the cheek pad that has tanned leather on it with nice brass tack work addorning it..

i once had a .22 revolver that had leather wrapped on the grips, they were too small for my hand otherwise. removed the leather and there was no screws to hold the grips on. figure the leather (actually was streached rawhide) was soaked and streach wrapped on to hold the grips on by a previous owner. but it sure was comfortable in my hands!

Marlin 1894 lever-action in .38/.357. The lever was stiff when I first got the gun and hurt to work the lever. Iwound a bootlace around the lower side of the lever; made a nice additon to the appearance of the gun and made it easier on the hand. Now it's pretty well broken in but I have left the lace on. Nice accessory.

leather holds moisture.
ive had leather shotgun slip on pads suck the oil finish right out of stocks.
hmmmm. i'll pass.

Sure would look good though. I could see some inlays of some nice tanned leather on the foregrip and then the cheekrest being beautiful. Might not be the best for the wood, but I bet it would work on a nice wood-looking laminate or something!

i collect C&R guns. I have dozens of old broom mausers that have a leather frog on the wood butstock/holster.. other than regular handling marks onthe leather and the wood.. I don't notice any 'damage' the leather has done to the wood.

mind you i PROPERLY store and care for my guns.. so i don't leave them out in the rain or on a porch.. under the bed or in places elements can get to them. IMHO.. if too much moisture is getting to your guns.. your wood stock or leather parts are the least of your concern. better check that rusty bore and action

I keep damp rid and other moistre / humidity control methods in the palce i store my guns.. lotsa options available.. everything from pre-made to DIY dessicant packs.. damp rid chemical /water collectors, to electric dry rods..

too many ways to control moisture to let it beat you..

i was experimenting with ultralite hunters /survival weapons

i made a leather over wire stock for a featherlite and repro ar-7

i had a bag like set up in it with a flap and press stud to keep it closed

gun laws changed a couple years later so all that died
