Default Gun Store Owners....

ok one thing recently that pisses me off a lot, they don't know concealment laws for hooha and they go off telling people the wrong stuff, often completely wrong. They as much as cops should know gun laws to the T, and dotted lower case j. What pisses me off the most their shitty advice could get my loved ones or friends arresting and they see no consequence, I know you can't get charged with being stupid but ARGH! I started bringing a copy of all major gun related laws around in my car (several copies) and I give them out if I happen by a gun store in my daily ventures, and I inform them of why I am bringing it or just place it on the counter and say this is for questions regaurding the carry laws please learn them correctly. Some places kept them up others well did not.
I love bringing my non white friends to a few gun stores, yeah there still are ones that are the local supremecy and rifle range... I think I am going to have to do it again soon, recently I was there picking up some shotgun primers and a Hispanic women sat there ignored for 10 minutes while other customers walked in and got helped. That chaps my caboose too. Racism is a curb no higher than the width of your hair, if you can't step over it your a freakin' moron, and the sad thing is, its not even a curb....

I concur about giving bad advice, but the greater sin is to follow it. You mention LEO's knowing the law, well they aren't much better than gun shop advice. If you can read, get a copy of the law and read it. If you don't understand what you have read get a legal opinion. I was recently stopped by a cop and almost arrested because he didn't know the law. I was fortunate that his boss could read and understand english.

Any decent/knowledgeable/true FFL, knows or has immediate access to the firearms laws & regulations, and not only on a
local basis.

You're absoultely right! I don't know what it is about working in a gun shop, but once people get behind that counter, they begin to believe that gives them a JD. I worked for a large chain and one of the biggest and most persistent problems we had was keeping after the counter guys not to be giving out legal advise. Now we did have one fellow who was a semi-retired federal judge but that was different. He not only had the JD, but 40 years of experience on the bench. We all listened to him when we could pull legal advise out of him. In any event, the attitude you point out with some counter guys is a problem too. Years ago when I first started in the business and noticed it, I thought that it might be related to the chemicals in the bluing tanks and cleaning solutions that made these guys a little off. But after working lots of places that didn't have bluing tanks and where guys would never stoop to clean a gun that wasn't their own, I decided that's not it. The best explanation that I can come up with is what I call the "pack mentality." What I mean is that some people only feel confortable dealing with other people who think, act and look just like them--they stay with their pack just like dogs. If you look real close you'll even see this among the folks who are getting waited on at a gun store. There will be one little group made up law enforcement types, another of trap shooters, another of pistol shooters and another of varmint shooters. There aren't enough reloaders left anymore to have their own group, but they used to! When I was working with the large retail outfits the only way we found to break this problem was to put all the counter guys on commission. Worked wonderfully, but the company still went broke.

good stuff man
The racism thing really gets me at some places, albeit rare, one place I frequent out of convience I may not frequent any longer because of this.

there is one gun store I have to commend, I have not been given crap advice or wrong advice from them Adventure Outdoors, has all your sporting good needs, and a ton of guns, and very informed staff, and a range of diff pack types on staff, prices that are hard as hell to beat too. If you're ever in Smyrna GA and think of it, it is on cobb parkway, stop by there.
