Default Pet Peeves

Now's your chance folks! List your pet peeves, get them out in the open, clean the pipes, let it all hang out!

Here are my Top 10, but I have many more. It doesn't take a whole lot to set me off.

1. Telemarketers. (All should be shot out of hand as a public service )

2. Spammers. (See comment above. )

3. Liberal politicians, particularly those with an agenda.

4. Anti-gunners. (Ship them all to China, Russia, or Britain)

5. Religious fanatics (not honest and devout believers, just the narrow-minded lunatic fringe)

6. Baggy pants and piercings on males. (Hip huggers on appropriate females are OK though, VERY OK )

7. So-called "hunters" who kill wantonly and for no purpose.

8. Bureaucrats.

9. Illegal immigrants.

10. Drivers who insist on doing 25 in a 45 zone, or 50 on the freeway.

What are some of yours?

Girls who wear really skin tight pants... And long shirts.

Just kidding...

In truth. I used to think #1 was trains. We have several grocery warehouses locally and a couple co-ops so you get stopped by a really long train every time you try to cross town, but what really kills me is my neighbors dogs... There are a couple rent houses around me and it seems that no sooner do I teach these wild animals that they are better off quietly sitting on the back porch, the people up and move leaving the house to another set of redneck renters with a bellowing mutt... They are usually easy enough to train, but it has to be done, usually while I am trying my best to grab a few hours of much needed sleep.

Maybe I should move to the sticks.

I'm with you, IPT! I also have no tolerance for people who think they will intimidate me. They find out fairly quickly what I think about that.

OH, OH, OH!!! I was talking to a friend on the phone yesterday (God I hate talking on the phone!), anyway she was telling me how her mother-in-law (who lives alone in a bad part of town, while my friend lives in the northern part of the state) had just bought one of those big frozen meat packaged deal thingys. Well, the mom-in-law (who also, BTW, has a benign tumor on her brain) went to her deep freezer (which was in a locked room in her carport) just to find the lock was broken. Someone had stolen ALL that meat she had just bought. ALL OF IT. And it gets WORSE! She turned around and the neighbors directly across the street from her had their grill in their FRONT yard grilling out with--low and behold--HER box of meat. ON TOP OF THAT, they were waving at HER and LAUGHING! She went over there and told them she knew they took her meat and they just laughed. It made me sick when she told me about it and it still makes me sick every time I think about it. I don't know if you can call that a "pet peeve" but THIS is the kind of bullsh!t that pisses me off to no end. The incredibly sad and unfortunate reality is THAT is NOT an isolated incident. THIS is the kind of legacy parents are leaving their children. When my friend was telling me this story, before she finished, my knee-jerk reaction was thinking the people were that poor and just trying to feed their children. I've stated on here before that if things were that bad for me (and I mean pretty damn bad), I would steal food to feed my son. Believe me, I pray to God that I would never have to do that but I will do everything in my power to see that my son never goes hungry (and that's no small feat cuz he's 13 1/2 yeards old!!).

But it irks the sh!t out of me when I'm over here struggling my ass off as a single parent and teaching my son to become a man of integrity while the majority of the world are like the aforementioned.

I am really coming to believe that the downfall of this country began when simple assault became illegal and prosecutable. I'm not talking about a serious beating or using weapons. Just a square off with fists, a bruise or two and perhaps some lessons learned.

There was a time giving a trouncing for acting way out of acceptable bounds was applauded. Should a discourteous young man act in a lewd manner to a young lady, and her father, brother or husband gave said young man a sound thrashing the police told him he received exactly what he deserved. These days defending the young lady's honor will find you in jail.

The lessons of today teach that bad behavior and discourtesy are allowed because the good guys have their hands tied behind their backs by a society that has lost its backbone.

Just one of my pet peeves.

Dang now I know why I got into so much trouble as a young man, I wasn't supposed to blouse those type of peoples nose for them. Oh well to late to change now. Heck I even got arrested in our little town then got un-arrested when the officer found out the rest of the story. My pet peeve is jerks that take up handicapped parking without requiring it. Ask my wife how many times she has saw me make a butt of myself asking, then telling some individual to get out of a handicapped parking space. catfish

Firebird, I have an idea for Auntie!
Go out and collect some road kill of various kinds and in different stages of decomposition. Butcher it, package it, put it in her freezer! Have her brag to the thieveing neighbors that she replaced the meat...and hopefully they'll repeat their stupidity and steal from her again. Then SHE can stand out front while they're grilling smiling & waving...as she knows where that meat came from! Chow down a!!holes !
The audacity of stupid people is one of my pet peeves!

Not exactly subtle, but yup, that would definitely work, Berto. No doubt about it. I've seen that stuff take down full-grown trees.

I'm kind of a cynical person and have a lot of pet peeves. I think of myself as a patient person, but I'll gladly grab at your chance to vent just a bit.

Generally all of my comments will fit under the following two points:
1. The disappearance of common sense.
2. Inconsiderate, selfish, and oblivious people.

I give you... a few things that bother me:
  • Idiot drivers in general. People all make mistakes. I make mistakes driving too. But, every day I run across several people on the road who SHOULD NOT BE ON THE ROAD. They don't have common sense and are so selfish and inconsiderate. Under this I would include...
  • People who drive while talking on their cell phone. I don't really include hands free devices in this. I'm sure whatever they are talking about on the phone is NOT worth the safety and lives of those around them on the road. I'm sorry that some people have to have this piece of plastic glued to the side of their head in order to function, but it would be an interesting experiment to see if they could remove it and continue to have functional brain activity. Lately there has been a discussion on whether or not there needs to be a law against text messaging while driving. WHY DO WE NEED TO BE HAVING THIS CONVERSATION?!?
  • People who talk on their cell phone in an extremely animated and loud manner in public. When I see people doing this, it embarrasses ME. HOW do they not embarrass THEMSELVES?
  • (This one might upset some people here) People who drive humungnourmous trucks / SUV's WHO DON'T NEED TO. I see so many of these on the road. They take up too much space, use too much gas, and many can be seen weaving erratically and jumping curbs because the driver can't see over the dash board and isn't skilled enough to operate a vehicle that size. I have no problem with SUVs. They are great vehicles for their intended purpose. It's people who buy the suburban with the lift kit, custom paint, low profile 24" wheels with chrome rims and four wheel drive that you KNOW HAS NEVER SEEN MUD that I have a problem with. Buy a minivan! Most of them have more room inside, get much better gas mileage and will fit their purposes better. I know, I know, minivans aren't "cool".
  • It is these same people who believe that because they are in a huge 4x4 they can do whatever they want on the road when it's snowing, and often end up on their side in the ditch on the side of the highway. Four wheel drive doesn't help you stop. A normal sized front wheel drive car can turn and stop much better than a huge 4x4 in snow.

I could go on and on, but I'll stop for now.

I agree COMPLETELY, Lurp!! Yeah, minivans suck rocks, but I have a smaller SUV AND it's DIESEL!!! I love that damn thing!!

But your post reminded me of a HUGE pet peeve I have when it comes to motorists: NOT WAVING WHEN I LET YOU OUT!!!!!!!! OMF!!! GRRRRR! That just chaps my hide!!!

Firebird,

If those "meat thieves" have dogs, I suggest wrapping a tablespoon of epson salts into a meatball (multiples work better :-) ) and feeding them to the critters. It takes an hour or two to work but then the poor dog will simply lose its bowels, usually in the house as it does not know it is coming. It shold not harm the dog, except for its dignity, but those lowlifes will have one heck of a time cleaning up.

An elderly neighbor of mine put me onto this tactic after his neighbors dogs insisted on using his lawn as a "litter field' and laughed at him when he asked them to keep the dogs on thier side of the fence. I remember talking with that neighbor after the incident and she confirmed she had one awful mess from the dogs and couldn't figure out why. To this day she does not know, but I smile whenever I think of that devilsh old friend of mine and his non violent but effect measure of revenge.

They do that on purpose. I drive truck. I'll just blow right by them all, if I can get close. Usually nobody will let you through. All it takes is one person getting away with it, and the whole group will follow. It's like herding chickens

I absolutely cannot stand people who will watch another person struggle with something and not offer to help, especially in instances when helping out would only take a minute or two.

Hello Everyone!!!!

I am still new to the TFF and I have read it daily and gotten some truely great advice from many of the members here. But when I started reading this thread I could feel my blood start to boil when I thought of my pet peeve...
Before I state my pet peeve I have to give you some background. First off I am still a young buck (29 years old) but I was raised by some incredible parents (1 Republican and 1 Democrat). And throughout my upbringing I was taught one thing that seems to be lacking in the youth of today and that is RESPECT. I was raised to be polite, respectful, and work hard for what you want and I am terrified that people these days seem to have a sense of entitlement that is in my opinion CRAZY.
I also must state that I live in the middle of Dallas, TX. Everytime I go out I can't help but notice the total lack of respect that one human being shows to another and it makes me so MAD.
In my opinion The United States of America is the greatest country in the world and we should all feel lucky to live here. Granted some people are luckier than others, but we all work with the cards we are dealt and if you work hard, stay focused, you can acheive great things. I was very lucky and I got a good education and I work my butt off everyday towards my goals and I am so scared that that quality (which is a true American Value) is becoming lost in a sea of apathy.
Wow I don't mean to ramble on but I have read this thread and it got me going. So to conclude I would like to post what I think people should do:
1.) Respect anyone until they prove otherwise
2.) Listen to people with more experience
3.) Get a Mentor!
4.) Just because you are in a hurry does not mean you are more important than anyone else, we all have stuff to do, learn to wait in line without being a jerk
5.) The rules APPLY to EVERYONE...if someone breaks the rules that is not an excuse for you too, but rather an opportunity to set a good EXAMPLE.
6.) And for heaven's sake Vote every chance you get (preferable for Ron Paul)

Okay thanks for letting a young buck rant!

-Kurt
