Default VV N105 for Magnum Revolvers

just stumbled across this powder, it kept showing up in QL as a powder that would be efficient, fill the case, and give velocities I was looking for... i did some trials with it using the .44 mag and .357 mag and was impressed...

anyone have experience using this powder?

I have not used VV N105 but I have used a lot of VV N110, with excellent results.

N105 is just a little faster burning than N110... they are 'micro' extruded powders, the powder looks like mini sticks and it burns very cleanly and efficiently.

N105 is faster than 2400 but not as fast as Blue Dot, right between those two. This is how VV describes this powder:

This special powder has a burning rate between N350 and N110. It is especially developed for handgun cartridges with heavy bullets and/or large case volume. Reloading data is currently available for 9 x 21mm, .38 Super Auto, .357 Magnum, .40 S & W, 10mm Auto, .44 Remington Magnum and .45 Winchester Magnum.

If my teenage son wakes up today i plan to chrony some loads this afternoon.

Range results today:

.44 Rem Mag, 4" bbl, 240 gr HP-XTP, 16.6 gr VV N105, regular primer, 1328 fps avg, 6 fps std.

.357 Mag, 4" bbl, 158 gr HP-XTP, 12.4 gr VV N105, regular primer, 1339 fps avg, 16 fps std.

These are listed charges from the VV website, VV recommends using regular primers and not mags.

These are good results for these guns because I was having trouble finding a powder that would work well with them... with Blue Dot and H110,both at max published loads, I couldn't break 1250 fps for both revolvers. These were stout loads today, I think to develop a hunting load I am going to back off to around 1225-1250 fps and see what the accuracy is.

Looking for a load that can take down a deer up to 50 yards, and give a black bear a bad day.
