Default Hi New (Old) Guy here

Hi I'm about 30 minutes new to this site. 61 almost 62, tired and retired. laughed with a few of the posts i've seen. used to shot and hunt a lot. Then I let 20 years of work take over. HELL NOW I'M BUYING MORE GUNS AND SCOPES AND STUFF THEN EVER BEFORE. So i'll probably haunt this forum a bit.
I'm kinda like a kid with a new bike and a flat tire on Christmas morning right now. I got a hankering to try one of those .17 HM2 conversions for a Ruger 10/22 so i bought a .920 barrel and bolt, a thumb hole stock, a 3x12 44mm scope and rings. Well i was pretty excited to get started but found the rings were back ordered so .... i'm a waitin'. ( just for Plinking )
I saw the newbe thread and was going to jump in but from what i've seen on other forums after a thread gets a bit down the line it doesn't get much viewing so i decided to say Hi in a new one.
I tend to be a bit long winded so some of you guys may begin to pass when you see Woodie in the header.. probably can't blame you.
I've got to do a lot more searching as i hope to find a some info on some of my older guns. Just curious. I used to hunt a bit with my Ruger .41 magnum holy cow can't find many bullets listed for the old girl anymore. i guess I'll have to dig out my reloading stuff. Primers and powder are 20 to 25 years old wonder if it'll still work?
I read one post a guy was asking value of a Rem nylon 76. i was amazed to see the suggested value. I got mine as my own first .22 in about 1962, brown stock. That thing jammed every way from Sunday. We had bought it at a Western Auto in Weimar, Texas. So we took it back and in about 3 weeks they sent back a new one in Black stock. i was kinda P.O.'d as i like the Brown. Funny about 20 years later i was in a small gun shop in Marathon, Ny and saw a brown stocked one and tried to trade for it but the guy wanted $20 to boot so I kept mine. Glad i did now.Not that I'll ever sell it. With 2 sons and now a grand son I'm lucky to keep any guns in my cabinet. he he he. Well they shoot and take care so i don't mind.
Well i'd better sign off before I put to many to sleep.
Again hello All

Welcome to the forum Woodie. You'll fit right in! I'm also another of the over 60 crew that hangs out here. Not real sure about using that 20 year old powder!!!! Ya might want to invest in some newer stuff, it's only about $15 - $20 a pound these days.

21. Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

Welcome Woodie. You should fit right it around here. I just turned 71 this month and find retirement and the gun hobby can be a "blast". So much knowledge and experience around this forum it will be a lot of help. It sure has been to me.

What petesusn said

Loaded some .45s and 45acp last year from some open stock left over from the 60s. Primers had been stored in ammo cans but powder was in original cans with rusted caps. Found it when we moved up here a few years ago. Misplaced from a prior move. Shot most of it this past fall with no failures.

No the 60s are not the new 40s. I am feeling 70 at the ripe old age of 51. (soon to be 52)
