I am trying to decide which center fire rifle I need to round out my collection and it is a job
Here is a list of what I have Winchester 357 magnum Legacy lever Marlin 44 magnum lever Browning 358 Winchester lever Tikka 6.5 x 55 bolt Custom built 6.5 x 55 ( up for sale $850.00 with out glass) Winchester model 70 Ranger 30-06 (up for sale) 45 auto carbine 9mm Camp rifle AR 15 M1 Carbine SKS ( a few )AK47 17HMR CZ 452 BLR 22 10/22 Remington 550-1 (up for sale) But what if I need to hunt a dinosaur or a just a mean old nasty critter? I think I want either a 300 winchester magnum (no WSM) or a 338 Winchester magnum. What would you buy to round out this collection of junk? What brand? Which action? Which type of stock? Why? I would really like your input on this. As you can see I am selling off several guns and getting my inventory down below fifty guns total including hand guns, shot guns is another story . BUT I NEED ONE MORE RIFLE (and I still need that Savage 250-3000)Thanks Ron

The choice should be obvious, Ron. I don't see a single double rifle in your list! Everyone needs at least one of those in case one's home is attacked by marauding cave bears or vicious rhinos. It should preferably be in a caliber that requires a permit from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to test shoot!
Seriously, you can't really go wrong with the .338 Winchester for anything in North America, or the .458 Winchester if you want to include African game.

Go buy yourself a K31. Or two. Or three. (They are best purchased in groups of three. that way, you can use their built-in stacking rods to make a neat little tripod of rifles.)
At <$150 for a decent K31, they're a great deal. And this little Swiss Misses can SHOOT! I'm still trying to figure out what my little Swiss Miss is named. Need a nice, feminine Swiss name for her. She's originally from Vaud Canton. |

No get a 750 nitro . I got to handle and shoot a double rifle chambered for that once. At a distance it sounds like field artillery. When I picked it up I was wondering where the wheels were. It had to weight 45 lbs. Now I know why they had gun bearers in all those dark Africa movies. The recoil wasn't sharp, more like a shove. But a shove from a crazy bull!! When when my vision cleared I looked into the empty case. It looked like it took a pound of power. I've seen car pistons that were smaller than the bullets.
On second thought get the 338. Much safer, and cheaper.
