I have the following rifle that I am thinking of selling.
Remington Model 788 - .22-250 caliber, Weaver mounts and Weaver 4x wideview scope, sling, 6 boxes of ammo and two boxes of brass and RCBS reloading dies. This rifle is in very good condition. Purchased from a private owner in 1980. What is it worth?

Remington Model 788.....Blue Book Value:
98% - $275 95% - $250 95% - $225 Scope, mounts, & other stuff would add to the value, but I don't know how much. |

I had one in .243 and know where there is another in .243 for sale. My dad has one in .22-250 just like you are selling.
Your best bet is to market it towardvarmint hunters and coyote callers. The 788 has somewhat of a following among those guys. I have heard some negatives about the 788 accuracy potential because of the rear locking lugs on the bolt. In my experiences and talking to others these claims are pretty much unfounded and the gun will shoot as good as 99.9% of the shooters out there. |

If I remember correctly the concern was mostly from benchrest shooters who worried about bolt flexing along its length since it locked in the back. This might be true for hot loads/heavy bullets but I doubt there is enough of a flex to affect bolt lockup or accuracy for anything but the most extreme measurements. Like I said these rifles are somewhat sought out by varmint hunters and can bring a premium. |
