The originial GI front sight on my 43 year old Colt Commander fell/broke off yesterday. This pistol has already had some 'custom' work done to it so I realize it will appreciate only so much if at all.
If I send it to Novak for thier low profile sights (will require machining the front of the slide for their sight), will I be committing some sort of 1911 sin? Or, should I see if Colt can replace the original front sight? The previous owner had a Millet rear sight added.

me, I would retain the GI type sight. A competent gunsmith can install the sight and be good for another 40+ years
