Default Remington R1

hey guys. i'm in the market for a 1911 pistol. there are so many different variants and makes of them i am having a hard time making up my mind. Kimbers are nice but pricey. i am leaning more towards the remington r1. any opinions on that?

I bought one of the R1 Talo editions last month and it's a nice gun for the money. Not fancy and feature packed like some but fit & finish are very good and it shoots very well...

Fantastic gun! Just got one myself and it shoots great. Picked it up on Dec.29, 2011, and just got out to shoot it 2 days ago. Great gun for the money. It was also my first 1911.

They seem to be good. I have had a few customers that have them complain about how low they shoot. They ended up sending them back to Remington for a lower front sight. They seem to carry a hefty price tag for a really no frills 1911. The STI spartan or Ruger 1911 would be a better deal.

The problem with the Ruger is nobody actually has one on the shelf. I know folks that have been on the waiting list for months. Price wise, it's a tad higher than the PI built guns but not outrageous - even the Springer basic models have went up dramatically - Bud's latest pricing for a parked Mil-Spec is $575...

I want one just for the Remington name and because my other two 1911's are awfully lonely. Eventually I'd like a Ruger also. You can't have too many 1911's.

The one I have shot does not shoot low. The other one is very low serial numbered and is going to be a safe queen for the next 20 years.

Different finish, different grips, and 2 eight round magazines instead of 7 rounders. That appears to be about all.

I just found those rosewood grips and ordered a pair for my R1 though, for 30 bucks.

I still want a set from Woodnut too.

Not much, somewhere around $25-$30. This just happened to be the one my buddy had in stock and I liked the looks. He did tell me that the finish on the early R1s wasn't very robust and this appears to be very sturdy...

I've seen the price difference as much as $50 - $100.

The remington I am offering for 589.00 is the talo edition with 2 8rd magazines. You probably wont find a better deal and I dont know how long I will offer it at that price.

I got the gun Double D was offering, and took it out to the range the other day. It does shoot low, so I need to do something about that. But the gun is nice and tight, and pretty accurate other then shooting low. But at least it's consistent. Nice finish although I may change out the grips for standard GI grips to save these laminated rosewood grips.

I shot it about 900 rounds and had no malfunctions at all. Fired it right out of the box after a simple disassemble and cleaning and oiling. Oh yeah, and I tried a group of ten cheapo mags I bought from Cheaper Than Dirt which are selling for under $6 each. As I said, no malfunctions at all. I don't know which I'm impressed with more, the R1 or the cheap mags!
