I bought the 100 round box of Rem 230 gr Sur-Shot at Academy. The UMC .45 is the same price - $41.xx . Walmart is about the same. The UMC 250 gr. is a pretty good deal as well. I saw some at WalMart but it was mismarked or in the wrong slot. Less than $100.

The Shur-shot or however you spell it, shot fine for me. DF

I fired a friend of mine's r1 and fell in love. Great gun, but this one had a jamming issue. Not sure if it was specific to that gun or they have a reputation for it.

I worked on my grip and trigger squeeze/sight picture and my last 6 round group was at 6clock, bottom of the bull in about a 3-4 group at 25 yards. I think that is outstanding, especially for my first time with a .45, brand new. And the stainless, to me, is an absolutely beautiful handgun.
Post a pic please!!!!

I doubt it. Anytime a 1911 has a jamming issue it usually can be sorted out by changing the magazine and or polishing the feed ramp or just simply changing ammunition. So, I am doubting they have a reputation for jamming.

When I bought my R1 stainless a few weeks ago, the dealer told me the Ruger 1911 was very difficult to find, just as much money (maybe to make me feel okay) and he liked the R1 better anyway.

I love my R1. that stainless is beautiful and same MSRP as the basic blue.

Glad to finally see a thread on the R1.....I have two.

My first I bought 2 months ago. Has an OD Green frame with black G10 grips and two eight round mags.

My second I picked up last week. It's stainless with walnut grips and two 7rd stainless mags.

Love them both. They are the first 1911's I have fired in 41 years.
