I have a .38 caliber 5-shot Iver Johnson revolver (Stamped “Iver Johnson’s Arms & Cycle Works Fitchburg, Mass. U.S.A.”). S/N D87602. No date of manufacture but patent date is November 17, 1908 which makes it a “third model” manufactured between 1913 and 1941. The barrel length (from end of muzzle to front of cylinder) is 3 3/4". No front sight. This pistol belonged to my grandfather and I would like to know the date of manufacture to have an idea of when he might have purchased it. Thanks Val.

If your gun is a third model large frame hamerless, the serial number would cross to a 1922 manufacture date.

Thanks for the input. Much appreciated. Any idea how many were made that year?

This gun is not worth much. I also have this gun made in 1922. Trigger pull is the worst I have ever seen. I was able to get some 38 sw ammo that is very hard to come by. At 25 feet I couldn't hit the target. Maybe could get better with practice. They are with around $100.00 in good condition.

My refernce book indicates there were 5300 of that model manufactured in 1922.
