Default Pig Hunting

I'm looking for a place in California to take my sons pig hunting that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, any suggestions, ideas or thoughts?

Yes. there is great hunting there. I have never hunted there but I have a friend that used to hunt pigs there on private land. He would drive up with friends and family and they would hunt. I believe the guns were provided. He has passed away so that is all of the info I have. He used to say that the immigrant workers literally took the pigs from them and were grateful for them.

We don't advertise it because some of the politicians would take that right away.

Ya, I'm sure about that. I know of a rancher that has politicians that are against hunting that pay a yearly fee to use his land for hunting. They actually fly down and hunt his land annually.

It doesn't matter, I live in the L.A. area and have hunted Fort Hunter Liggett a couple of times but have yet to see anything. I can't afford $1000 for my two sons to go pig hunting on private land.

That's how it goes. The rich step in to pay the big bucks and it squeezes the average guy out. Can't blame the property owner. I hope you find a place.

Yea, I grew up in Kansas and could hunt anywhere I wanted. The deer were big and everyone hunted. Then the outside world found out and started pouring in with money, the land owners saw a way to supplement their income and closed the land to locals. Now the deer are half the size they used to be and as thick as rabbits. Hunting has turned to c**p and it's expensive.

You might try Bryson-Hesperia. It's located off of Interlake road about 10 miles from FHL. Deedy runs a nice operation with lodging in cute little cabins and has a bunch of leases that she can run either fully guide hunts or a semi-guided hunt that might be more in your price range. Right now turkey season has started and I'm sure she's pretty well booked for turkey hunters. Do a Google search and you'll find the number. She's good people and really knows her stuff.

Have you looked at public lands east of la out by Barstow?

I know pigs are thick up in northern ca. I grew up in Corning ca 120 miles north of sac. Lots of public lands up there to shoot pigs on if you want to drive.

It's an 8 to 12 hour drive but it public and you can hunt and camp there. Nice people up in that section of the state. Believe in god guns and living free.

san diego has pigs a little hard to hunt them but they are here. u only have to pay for gas i can give u a few areas where they have been killed close to my place on public land. then u get maps and go for it. that's the way to hunt. imo

Thanks Cpt. but they have new rules. Hunting: permitted for all legal species, except for wild pig which may only be taken during the G-1 deer season with special access permit.

Madbuck22, What area of San Diego is open for hunting?

That's insane. From what I understand these wild pig populations are growing and becoming a serious threat to lives and property.

I'm not a hunter but I don't understand why so many constraints are placed on hunters say in deer season, and yet the deer are scattered along the highway and cause serious injury and death to motorists. They give hunters so many restrictions and such a short season then hire professionals to thin out the herd.
