Can I buy a decent scope for my 10/22 in the under 100 dollar range, or is that laughable?

yep. thats a good one for a .22. Another recommendation would be a BSA sweet .22 or a catseye, though the catseyes are every bit of a 100 bucks but they are on the level of scopes twice their price IMO.

i have a 4 power tasco on my .22 and i get them bunnies everytime
its 20+ year old though now .. Bushnell have slightly better optics and way better frames so they'll take a beating better than the tasco , you do get what you pay for but do you need that difference ? if rough on rifles and scopes yeah , if you aint save some bucks .. |

Heck yes you can Jackman. I don't have any pricey rifles and I don't have any pricey scopes on the rifles (all rim fire). I have a BSA on my 10/22, a Tasco Air Rifle scope on my Marlin 60 and another Tasco on my Winchester 9422. They have all worked fine for me. Are they as good as the Leupold? No but my Mercury is not as good as a BMW but it gets the job done. Of the dozen or so .22 rifles the Old Guys shoot there is not a scope there that cost over $100 and nobody is complaining. Only real problem is choosing which one to get, ha.

Heres the catseye I got on my rem 5. I caught it on sale at Academy for 70 bucks. Its a 3-12X44 and has target turrets and a side focus as well as screw on lens caps. A bunch of scope for just 70 bucks..

It is not as nice as the one Josh has but this is the BSA I have on my 10/22. I think it was on sale as a discontinued model for $59.00 at Natchez Shooters Supply or Optics Planet I can't remember (I know Bob it is an age thing, ha)

Here's a 10/22 scope mounting tip:
Ruger investment casts most of their guns including the 10/22. This is not a precise machining operation (no machining operation at all!) and sometimes the top of the receiver comes out not exactly parallel to the bore. And sometimes it is so bad that you run out of scope elevation adjustment to zero the gun. The fix is the one pice base elevated as necessary on one end with steel shim stock. It does not take much thickness to make a big difference on the target. A little math, algebra, and geometry will tell you how much you need from the error in elevation on the target when the elevation adjustment is centered in the adjustment range (or nearly so). Jackman:
They are not all this way but one of several that I have done was. So you may be lucky or maybe Ruger has gotten better with this (??). I have a Volquartsenized 10/22 (heavy barrel, stock, trigger parts) that I did myself and it is a tack driver with ammo it likes. It most certainly is the Volquartsenized stuff as few 10/22's can shoot with it. But having said that a friend has a the target, top of the line, Ruger version and out of the box it shoots nearly as well as my Volquartsenized version. LDBennett |

Ha. nobody gonna come thru that door and if they do they deserve to be shot. thats the door to the master bathroom closet. its about 25 feet from my desk. I used the door handle to show off the scopes ability to focus at such close ranges. Thats why i love the adjustable parralax scopes and I am spoilt to the side focus knob over the adjustable objective. This scope will focus that close with full 12X magnification. It really makes shooting 1 holers at 50 yds easy.
