Default Need scope advise

I just bought a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 rifle, and would like to mount a scope on it. A buddy suggested a Leupold 3x9 rimfire scope. When I checked costs, they seem a bit too pricey. Any suggestions for under $200? Thanks for any help.

Look at the Redfield scopes (made by Leupold) as a solid buy; also do not be afraid of the new tasco scopes as they are adequate for a .22 and are low cost.

You should take a look at the Leupold Rifleman line of scopes. Should fit your budget. Check out the warranty on any you consider. Nikon's are good glass too. Get the best you can afford. That way you only cry once.

I don't have any recommendations for scopes under $200 since anytime I've bought a cheap scope, I wasn't happy with it and then had to buy quality the second time.

I strongly agree with the statement from Steve, buy the best you can afford. You will be much happier in the long run.

For around $300-$330 I would recommend the Weaver Classic 4-16x with AO. If you get a scope without parallax, make sure it is parallax free at 50 yards for a .22 rifle, unless you are going to do most of your shooting at 100 yards. A scope without AO that is parallax free at 100 yards does not work well for a .22 rifle

Many shooters find the Mueller line to be good value and they have an excellent customer service system.

I had Ruger's version of the rifle and couldnt/didnt have much luck with the scopes I had on it. Finally went with a reflex sight.
(didnt have high $ scope's on it)

I've used a Centerpoint 4-16x from WalMart for about $80 with good results on a number of guns - including my Savage MKII BTVS

I also put a Centerpoint on my Ruger 10-22. It is the 3-9 variable with the red/green lighted recticle. I have only just sighted it in so no long term use record but I was hitting pennies at 50 yards once it was zeroed (bench rest).

I think I paid around $59.00 for it at Walmart. Given the .22 doesn't generate a lot of recoil, if any. I am not too concerned about its longevity.
The only bad part is it is made in China.

I got my Redfield 5 Star at a gun shop used. They were asking too much for it IMO, but worked it in on a trade i made with the feller. And it's a GOOD scope!

get a bushnell dusk and dawn banner 4x12x40 so you can get a little bit more power. Mine costed $100 + tax. Works perfect with my Savage Model 25 .223 Caliber Rifle
