I didn't even think they came in .22 cal, I have a k frame .357 it's the first handgun I ever bought ($160 at a pawnshop about 20 years ago) and I wouldn't trade for anything.

A Ruger MKII is hard to beat, they just keep running. And the Single SIx convertibles are possibly even more dependable if you like single actions.

I have the buckmark only and it is a tack driver and reliable as heck. It's a real pig, eats anything you give it without a hiccup.

I have a Ruger Mk. I, a Ruger Mk. II, and plan to add a Mk. III in the next couple of weeks. There have been documented million-round Rugers. It's not hard to believe. Rugers are some of the most over-built handguns made and the .22 Mark series are no exception. You can shoot them and shoot them and your kids can do the same and just keep passing them down. There may be some that are prettier, feel better in YOUR hand, or are even more accurate, but the Rugers score pretty high in each category and are tops for durability.

I think the everyone has stated the best for the money is A Ruger Mark II or Mark III. You can buy a Mark II very resonable, then probably the Buckmark

Hello Tezz I own a single ten and a single six ruger , smith 617 also a smith 41 , high standard trophy also the citation and the victor high standard all are great guns the high standard modells are by far the most accurate 22s I own , all the 22 i have all shoot the cci standard v , this ammo seems to group the best in all my 22s , if your only gonna have one gun in 22 I would think about saving your pennys and spend a bit more buy the one you like rather than going by price you will shoot it more often and enjoy it more aswell , my favorite and most accurate is the high standard trophy 7.25 inch and the citation is right behind it , the trigger is a bit lighter on the trophy , all my high standards are the older modells , my friend has a new one from texas and it shoots verry well as good as my older versions the seem to have got there act back together well thats my 2 cents good luck and enjoy

I own a Ruger SR22 that I've put about 3k rounds through so far. It's a fantastic shooter. Since it's a new model, there probably isn't too much data on how it will be after 20k. Since it's a Ruger, it's likely to have a long service life. It's a shorter barrel gun, hunting with it will be a challenge, but you'll love shooting it.

Hey Maine,
I looked at one of those SR22s just last week in a local shop. Kinda appealing for my wife and son, being slightly smaller and a whole lot lighter than the Mk. series. The up-to-fire, down-for-safe thumb safety is a little bizarre. Not a deal breaker but kinda made me wonder what the heck Ruger was thinking. Glad to hear you like it.

Ruger plain and simple. Steel frame or plastic? Luger or 45 grip angle? After a million rounds you might have to buy a new firing pin. You CANNOT wear these guns out unless you abuse them. My favorite..........

I have a Ruger MkII love it. Had a Smith M-17 K-22 (17-4) with an 8" barrel target trigger, hammer and sights. squirrels within 50 yards were as good as dead with that bad boy. I also have a Beretta Neos.
The neos is a good gun but when you buy one head to brownells and order yourself about 4 extractors as they are really fragile and have a tendency to blow apart. I wouldn't recommend shooting stingers in it as that is what blew my extractor off. Last edited by cpttango30; 05-23-2012 at 11:05 AM.. |

I am shooting aRuger Single-Six with great accuracy and reliabilty. It's two years older than I am, and I'm 55. Highly recommended, and especially any nice old three screw model that has been treated well. I wouldn't let a little worn bluing scare me away. These things get better the more you shoot them.
Have fun in choosing and shooting your .22. Iowa is a great state filled with very nice people. |

You can't go wrong with Ruger- except the price- in NJ they all seem to be around the $300-$400 mark. but they are tough and accurate.

First of all, welcome Tezz
A Bersa Thunder .22 or a Ruger Mark series...... depending on bbl length you prefer...... If I only chose one of these, it would be the Ruger Mark if you want a semi-auto. I would opt for a Ruger Single-Six revolver, or the Ruger Single-Ten revolver. These pics are a single-six convertible [.22lr/.22magnum] and this beauty is 50yrs old and functions FLAWLESSLY....... EVERYTIME !!!!! ![]()

Based on personal experience and several thousand rounds later, with minimal malfunctions and 100 % due to cheap bulk ammo the reliability, accuracy, and easy to field strip and clean my vote goes to the BUCKMARK

I have a S&W 10 shot revolver I bought at a gun show. It has the same frame as my 686 so I use it as practice time. Great revolver and shoots well.
